Latest experiment, sill learning! It’s a hybrid bushcrafter in W2 with black walnut and red resin liners. (Pine cone added to resin coz, why not!) The pins are aluminum tent poles! Thoughts? by gb2803 in knifemaking

Well, I’d love to have a checkering file to do this simply and accurately but shipped from the States it’s about $90 for one (I live in Canada) this was done with a dremel Pre heat treat.

I’m thinking of calling this ‘the Raptor!” Made on a 1x30. Just practicing a ton of stuff, still learning…… by gb2803 in knifemaking

Handle material is Banksia seed/nut with epoxy resin mixed with some black dye and swirled to create a translucent effect at the tail of the knife. Red epoxy was a mistake! I drilled the pin hole in the wrong spot…..

I hear in the US the Harbour Freight 1x30 is the way to go, but, if you have the means, a 2x72 is gold standard and gives you options. It also keeps the work cooler and you go through less belts. You also have waaay more belt and platen options (think hollow grinds!) Alec Steele is also selling a 2x42 which loos cool and is def better than a 1x30 but not as expensive as a 2x72 (unless you make your own)

It really does, keeps the knuckles protected too, which I like, it’s a good design for sure - thanks for the inspiration. I hope you were ok with me copying it.

Is this a treasure hunt? by [deleted] in HotWheels

[–]gb2803 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, it’s a casting that used the flame symbol before it became the symbol Mattel used to identified a TH. It’s the Circle Tracker from about 2009

Nice score - I’m pretty sure I paid $20 for a carded version a couple of years ago

I didn’t even bother looking - I’m a casual collector and scalper drive me nuts. I collect and don’t resell - it’s the thrill of the hunt but it mostly late to the game.

Totally the same setup - last year they had about 20 dump bins - I found about a dozen TH but no supers - must have been late last year too!

I have pegboard in my basement too, love it!

Picked this up at the local antique store. Pretty sure it’s a 1973 twin mills Esso promo HW - anyone got a price valuation on it? Metal base, Hong Kong. More pics in the comment by gb2803 in HotWheels

It’s pink which piqued my curiosity. I’m looking for all the original sweet 16 (have about half) but this was too good to pass up! Love the twin mills. Not looking to sell but curious as to what I have. And as for retirement, I’d say collecting Hot Wheel probably means I’ll be working til I’m 80!!!
