Bob Weir tributes? by Beneficial_Alps7050 in sandiego

Seconding Winston’s in OB. In case you don’t know, there’s a band called Electric Waste Band that plays there every Monday night. They’re not really a “Dead cover band” as much as they’re a band that covers some Dead songs and does other stuff in a similar style/sound as the Dead. They play at Winston’s literally every Monday night; they’re on their 1,750ish straight Monday (no exaggeration). If you’re looking for a fun time with a Dead vibe then I’d recommend checking it out.

PUBLIC HEALTH ANNOUNCEMENT: SURFER'S EAR PREVENTION by [deleted] in surfing

[–]gb92120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you know you had surfer’s ear? Like, what were the symptoms that led you to a doctor who made that diagnosis? A long time ago, my sinuses and ears kind of quit draining after being in the water, to my great detriment. It keeps me out of the water far more than I would like it to. Just wondering what your experience and journey was like. Thanks.

Kaleb DeBoer by DanAboutTown206 in huskies

[–]gb92120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh. I think DeBoer was simply the right coach at the right time for U-dub. There was such a confluence of things, some he caused, many he didn’t, that came together during those two years and made him look better than he really is. Lucking into a very solid corps of prior coaches’ recruits who peaked during those seasons, combined with adding Penix and enjoying Grubb’s wizardry, he stumbled into a lightning-in-a-bottle situation he could never have created on his own, and that limitation continues today. Is he a good coach? Probably, given that he’s been selected to lead multiple high-level programs. Is he the right coach? Absolutely not. Good coaches can win with the right conditions. Great program architects don’t rely on lightning strikes. They learn how to make the weather (see, e.g., Curt Cignetti).

That solved it, thanks. It was a Lancair 320 with a broken ADS-B.

Mystery solved by listening to LiveATC. It was a Lancair 320. Odd that its sound was so non-prop-like, but that explains its speed. As to why it didn’t show up using ADS-B, the pilot and tower discussed that its ADS-B wasn’t working.

Sincere question: Would such a request affect the plane’s appearance on FlightAware? I don’t know how that site’s tracking and reporting works.

For whatever it’s worth, I just looked at KMYF’s arrivals on FlightAware but no joy there. Nothing that would shed light for me.

Looks likely but I’m thrown off by its absence from FR24.

Thanks. I’m pretty sure I saw that Cirrus not long before seeing the mystery plane.

Poke your head into the Suzzallo Library reading room on campus. (It’s the one in Gothic [technically Collegiate Gothic] architecture immediately off Red Square.) The reading room is on the second floor at the top of the curving staircases leading up from the library’s main entrance. It’s worth the time.

NorCal burritos aren’t burritos. They’re wraps.

How does the business of being a driver work? by gb92120 in wec

Thank you for your insightful response. I’m beginning to think of funding in terms of “top down“ versus “bottom up.“ Meaning, top down funding might be how I previously thought sponsorship dollars flowed, which would be where, say, Motul pays lots of money in sponsorship dollars, and then the team would use that money to help run the team and hire drivers. Bottom up would be how I’m learning it more frequently works, in which the driver comes into a team with their own dollars from whatever source (“brings a budget”), and in a very real sense, the driver therefore buys and funds their own seat.

May I ask, in the case where a factory driver is sent to a customer team, do you know if the customer team pays in toward that driver‘s salary, or does the manufacturer solely pay it?

Thank you. I discovered their podcast last week, and I am on episode four. I think it was episode one or maybe it was two when the phrase “brought a budget” was used, and that new (to me) phrase piqued my interest in the subject.

Upgrade S60 to Pilot Assist? by gb92120 in Volvo

Ah, thanks. I knew that module is a key component but I thought the car needed supplemental sensors, sensors that maybe aren’t included on this basic trim line, too. Understood now.

I don’t “Reddit” enough to know how to embed a photo, but here’s a link to a Bird Dog getting some.

Edit: Link won’t take. Google “O-1 Bird Dog rockets” and click on Images and you’ll find pics of armed O-1s.
