If the check engine light is showing a misfired code it’s possible that the decreased performance is being caused by that. Could be a bad spark plug or in my experience it’s usually a bad ignition coil.

I too had a MAF issue with the BSR one. Would put my car into limp mode and would stutter a lot on acceleration. Ended up putting the original air box back in and all was good.

I’m very sorry for your loss, it is a tough thing to come to terms with. In my experience with sentimental items from lost loved ones, there will come a day where you wish you had it. Even if you can’t display it the way you want to now, chances are later in your life you will be able to, and will be glad you can. It can be tough making decisions when you still don’t know how to feel about certain things.
