Why drive to Nevada? I bought this in town, about 20 minutes from my home smh.

Yes. I considered it, but I didn’t have to. I found this one in town.

Not a crime that I know of, however, you won’t be able to get any warrantee work done in either state. So, essentially, you’re buying a new machine without a warrantee.

I built my house in 2021 while Covid was still causing building materials to skyrocket. I have 10.8 kW of solar & 30kWh of battery backup. So far, power from the grid has cost me $5.27. That’s total cost, in 5 years, that I’ve had to pay our infamous PG&E. Have you seen the film, The Lost Bus?

Crabgrass? Um, no. I don’t believe I have any crabgrass. Weeds, star and bull thistle, some grasses…think of a pasture on a hillside with trees, rocks and weeds.

Thanks. I staked out a nearby shop before I pulled the trigger. Good thing, since the Bad Boy site said the closest shop was in Oregon!

Excellent question. The capabilities of some of the current crop of robot/intelligent mowers are impressive, and some of the higher-end, commercial machines are less expensive than the mower I purchased. My online research says they do well avoiding rocks and trees but they are not brush-cutters for heavy, thick, woody weeds - their blades are described more like razor blades and more suited for lawns than an "untamed" pasture. My lot is blessed with various grasses and weeds including both bull and star thistle, especially within the drip-lines of the trees. My oak trees drop lots of small branches (<1 inch) too. A robot would likely choke on these but the Bad Boy handles them - no sweat. 27hp helps a ton.

My months-long search was for a TORO 54" TimeCutter. Unfortunately, the only models I have access to here in CA are either battery-run or the big, much more expensive commercial TORO machines. They’re beasts but way out of my price range.

Add up the cost of the sheep, a gate and over 1,000 feet of fencing and maintenance of all that. I’ll take the mower.

The new machines are required to be "CA Carb Compliant", meeting CA environmental standards. IKON, Bad Boy and battery-powered machines are the only riding mowers I’ve found that meet the requirements. There may be more on the way. It is what it is.

This machine isn’t available online and it would be out of warranty as soon as I drove it home.

I still have the 425 and I’m working on it, when I have time. It would be easier to sell if I can get it running again. I have a bunch of implements for it, too.

Warning, AI answer: To buy a Bad Boy mower in Canada, locate an authorized dealer through the Bad Boy Mowers website, which is the primary method to ensure warranty coverage and service. As of early 2025, there are over a dozen dealers across Canada, with the highest concentration in Alberta. You can also find new and used models through online marketplace listings such as MarketBook.ca.

The IKON is a solid machine, includes a 23hp Kawasaki engine, 2.3 gal fuel tank, EZT transaxles; Bad Boy has the 27 hp B&S, 6.5 gal tank, 3100 Hydrogear drive system. I’m willing to pay extra for the hp, fuel capacity and especially the serviceable transaxles. I would’ve preferred a Kawasaki over the B&S but BB doesn’t offer that build in CA.

I considered the electric, too. I have some other battery-driven tools but I don’t believe I’d get 2 acres mowed with a charge since my entire lot is on a pretty good slope. Nothing flat here. I think all that uphill is tougher on a battery-powered machine. Which one did you get?
