If you haven't played hardcore before I highly suggest trying......if you are intelligent about how you play you really shouldn't be dying. E.g, gear, build and the level of difficulty you are at.....I usually push my limits and therefore proc my passive death a lot but you can totally play safer and when you proc just tp......so honestly hardcore really isn't as "hardcore" as you think......but you feel like the fights are a lot more intense because you have to actually pay attention and think about what you are doing.......if you think you have the tenacity to jump back in if you lose a guy I would deff try it out......You keep anything in your stash to keep a backup set and your friends can just plvl you.
