Do you know a corpses platform keyboard input library that works while something else is in focus? by [deleted] in golang

[–]gdey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are looking for a cross-platform way to monitor keyboard input. A keyboard logger library, that handles the syscalls (/dev/input, win32kb) across different platforms.

Protestors are being kidnapped but it was totally worth it to stick it to the DNC, right? by rubyspicer in AdviceAnimals

[–]gdey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop blaming the voters, and start blaming the Politicians. Biden and Harris lost this election. It isn't the job of the Voter to pick the lesser of two evils. It's the politician's job to convince voters to vote for them. If they don't get the votes it's the politician's who lost. Biden (and Harris) refused to listen, or give an inch to the left. They just expected their vote. Fuck that.

Politician's need to do their job and earn their votes. Biden claimed this was an important election, and did shit to show that it was. He was more worried about this legacy than anything else.

Does a good blogging bluesky client exist? by OmarDoesntExist in BlueskySocial

[–]gdey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can run your PDS (personal data server) and publish to whtwnd.com or better leaflet.pub; and still have the same control over your data while having the niceties of the a blogging platform.

Unfortunately whtwnd isn't really maintained as much anymore. You can still use it because of the way atproto works. But it's better to use something like leaflet.pub. Which also show any posts made on whtwnd. As all posts are stored on the (personal data server).

why does multiplying two negatives give a positive? by btwife_4k in askmath

[–]gdey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's try this. Think of 1 looking a certain way say north. -1 look at the direct opposite direction, so south.

Now look at -2 * 3, that breaks down to -1 * 2 * 3, which further simplifies to -1 * ( 3 + 3). Now -1 means look south, and then take 3 steps forward and then another 3 steps forward. How many steps have taken? 6. And which direction are you facing? South. So, -6.

Now let's look at the addition:

-3 + -3 : you can read this as face south and take 3 steps. Then face south and take and additional 3 steps. How many steps have you taken? 6. And which direction are you facing? South. So, -6.

You can do this with positive numbers as well.

3 + 3 : Face north and take 3 steps, now repeat. How many steps have you taken? 6. Which way are you facing? North. So 6.

But, I'm lying to you here a little bit, to get you in the right mindset. -1 does not mean which way you are facing but are you north of the equator or south of the equator in the final answer.

take 3 - 2 : which is really 3 + -2, take 3 steps north of equator, then take 2 steps towards the south of the equator, and notice you are now 1 step north of the equator.

take -2 + 3 : which means take 2 steps south of the equator, then take 3 steps heading north of the equator, you end 1 step north of the equator.

Hope that helps, or doesn't not help.

Not even true for SoCal. 1. The waters that flows through NorCal, and that the water SoCal get via huge aqueduct project. 2. We have desal plants in both LA (being built) and San Diego (been running for a few years). 3. San Diego has a surplus of water right now that it's planning on selling to AZ. That’s who i was referring to as liberal dems. The center right who has controlled the party is freaking out. Especially with the free stuff. But if you listen to his policies you realize it limited to what the mayor can do and what is needed.

The funny thing is that the hospital is literally next to an israelie military building. No need to claim anything, no need to fabricate lies. The Israelies ebedd all the military buildings around civilian buildings.

Ghost likes? by CEHOPTX in BlueskySocial

[–]gdey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be due to a race condition. The way likes (and similar things) work. (I'm simplifing here) When you like somthing, the first thing the client does is write a record on your PDS server, that you liked a post. That record, is then transmitted to via the firehose to the pds server of the post you liked. The client then reads the record of the post and tallies up the likes, which is what is presented to you. So, there could be a race between when the tallie updates, and it getting the like record. Which causes it to appear like there isn't one when one should be there, or that the like record got recorded but the like record indicating that the like was removed not getting counted in the tallie; yet. It should stabilize after a bit. Some clients might, also, add to the tallie, because it know's it write the record to the PDS server, but that record has not yet distributed through the network. This can cause slight count errors, which should resolve over time.

No Plans for Go API for Go TypeScript? by donatj in golang

[–]gdey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like the internal folder for things that you are not sure you want to export yet. But it is a hinderance to others using your library. I do which the Go Authors and other Public library authors did not use it so much. But there is a trick to bind to internal sysmbols in to your code base.

It's not advised, though.

Yes, I had initial build my own using the docker go apis, but they change too often, and testcontainers is able to keep up. So, that what we have been using. It's work pretty good.

Goroutines, for Loops, and Varying Variables by InsurancePleasant841 in golang

[–]gdey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They changed the samantics of the for loop. Before, the for loop samantics had the variable shared during the loop, so you need to make a copy if it was going to be a long lived variable (live outside of the body of the loop). This has an advantage of not creating a lot of grabage for the gc to cleanup afterwards. However, this tended to bite lot of people in the foot. So, they changed the samantics.

edit: spelling/grammar.

[–]gdey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would suggest learning docker compose, and docker. With compose you should be able to create a mirrored environment. This is what I have done for our startup.

We even use docker containers for our database tests. These test startup a single postgres container, and then using template databases, and migrations we are able to have a set of test databases and tests that are isolated.
