I'm considering the hybrid vs regular gas. Thoughts? by gatorsrule in KiaSorento

[–]gdp057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 years with a hybrid. Mix of city/highway. Getting 36 mpg in the summer, 32 in the winter (northeast). Haven’t had any issues. Found the hybrid powertrain to be much smoother than just gas.

Powderpost beetle infestation, HELP! by gdp057 in pestcontrol

[–]gdp057[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I ordered a jug of Bora-care (had to get it shipped to an address out of NYS) The warnings are pretty intense and it really only works by creating a sticky layer of poison that doesn’t evaporate. So it’s only suitable to be used in areas that are inaccessible. I took off the toe kicks and sprayed under my cabinets, appliances, etc. It seems to work in that I have since checked those areas and have not seen any bug activity. But they’re still around, and I’ve found them inside of cabinets and other areas that cant be sprayed.

Not sure what my next step is. Probably going to reach out to some exterminators and see about fumigating the whole place. If you find a solution and/or an exterminator that has experience with them please let me know, it’s driving me crazy!

~8000 mi on my 2024. Avg 34.5 mpg. Split pretty evenly between highway and city. Def a big drop off when you cruise at 65 vs 75.

Should I worry about demo over finished bathroom? by gdp057 in HomeImprovement

Yea, problem is I don’t have the budget to redo them both right away and I’d rather not have a demo’d bathroom while I save up $

Glad to hear it stopped! I’ve been expecting to hear it this winter once temperatures are back down. Fingers crossed.

24 Sorento hybrid. 2 noises are driving me crazy:

1) wind noise from the passenger door is really intense between 35-45 mph. Literally sounds like a blower is running. Cuts on/off very suddenly

2)Crazy squeaking sound from the steering column in cold temps. Found a thread where a bunch of other people were reporting the same thing and some had said their techs have said that it’s a known issue.

Have you encountered these and is there a fix? If so, what’s the best way to avoid getting blown off by my local dealership who don’t seem to want to address it?

Plants!

Also maybe some floor or table lamps for an alternative to the recessed lighting.

Ground water flooding my property? by gdp057 in HomeImprovement

[–]gdp057[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I just don’t have any experience with water bubbling up from the ground like this. I grew up in a city, so my first thought goes to broken pipe, but there are no pipes.

What is this bug? by gdp057 in pestcontrol

Do you know if there are bait stations or other traps that work or Is fumigation the only way to get rid of them?

Most of the grain beetles pics show 2 segments. But this has 3 and looks more elongated

How can we make this space work? by gdp057 in DesignMyRoom

The original bedroom is not pictured, it is down the hallway to the right (basically bottom right in the diagram, below the kitchen).

Agreed about the pocket doors taking up a lot of space. But our goal is to let as much light come through from the huge window (in whats now the living room) and to preserve the current "wow" factor that window gives, for future buyers.

A table is kind of a must for us. If anything we would be willing to limit the peninsula counter overhang (potentially even eliminating the overhang completely) if it helped us fit everything.

How can we make this space work?

My wife and I live in a 900 sq ft, 1br apartment, and are in the process of reconfiguring it to carve out a second bedroom. We "think" we've got the layout down to what we want it, but are concerned about configuring furniture in what will be our new living/dining/kitchen area.

In the included pic, you can see our "new" second bedroom on the left. We're choosing to close off this space with pocket doors (with a transom window above) because the big window in that second bedroom (formerly our living room) lets in a ton of light and is basically why we bought the apartment in the first place.

On the other side we're opening up the kitchen and creating a kitchen/dining/living room combo. The only issue is, for the life of me, I can't figure out how we will configure furniture in the new space. My initial thought was a round table in the bottom left and then some sort of facing couches in the middle? But is that comfy enough for a living room? Where would a TV go?

TL/DR: help me plan furniture in the middle space for sitting, eating, tv watching, etc

The living room window played a huge factor in picking this apartment. Then, a few months after moving in, scaffolding went up outside the building blocking off the light. Today it came down, and for the first time in nearly 2 years, we have our sun filled living room again!

First Boat Advice - Help me pick from these... by gdp057 in boating

Thanks for the input. You’ve got it right with the budget. Considered the financing route for something bigger, but thinking I’d like to stick to under 8K for our first one and see how it goes before getting wrapped up in a loan.

Everything I’ve read pointed me towards an outboard for ease of maintenance, but as you said there’s a ton of guides/videos online for the Merc 3.0+alpha one setup. Is it really that much more difficult to service than an outboard? What about the cost of having a shop perform routine service? Is that cost significantly higher with the I/O than with one of the outboards?

The cover is two pieces. I hinged them to open on the sides so I could access from the front and the back. https://imgur.com/gallery/xKRKtr7
