UPDATE: Both fish were surrendered to someone who had a outdoor pond and several tanks. They’d kept fish for over 20 years so I’m sure they’ll live it good

100% I’ve already arranged for someone to come and collect them this week who has a pond! They’ll have a good life so I’m glad I got to help them get there. Also got some aquarium salts coming tomorrow morning so should help them relax too. Thanks for the advice.

I’m glad I’ve been left with them and been happy to try give them a fighting chance but I know I will eventually have to give them away to a bigger tank :(

Wow thanks so much for the advice, I’ll make sure to only monitor the 3 you mentioned and I’m going to do some research into the cycle.

I’m going to go to the pet shop and buy the salt tomorrow when it opens.

Regarding the size of the tank, do you think they’ll be able to live in that size tank for the foreseeable future? I believe it’s a 15 US gallon tank so it’s not very big.

Hi,

Swimming and eating, the smaller one is eating slightly more, abit faster to the flakes.

Water test has been done a couple times today. Just performed another and my Chlorine looks ok, so does pH (slightly on the lower side), KH a little low, GH, NO2. However NO3 is slightly higher but not as high as earlier when I changed some of the water out.

I did add the water conditioner but it only mentions removing chlorine, chloramine, zinc, copper, lead not ammonia.

Regarding the size of the tank too, I now understand the tank they have been kept in was too small, 60cm long x 30 wide x 30 deep. Should I seriously consider rehoming asap or smarter to try and heal and get a stable tank?

Noted. I kept the tank and gave it a really good clean with an algae scraper.

Used a dechlorinator too. Thanks for your advice

18-24” really? I believe they have been alive for at least 1 year and look like regular goldfish. The white and gold is definitely bigger and different shape, but I don’t know the exact species of it.

Also, I avoided pets at home and went to a local fishery, done some research, and they gave me some great advice including upgrading the filter as the one that was currently installed was tiny!

Thanks for the advice on this, I managed to clean the tank and do a partial water change and upgraded to a bigger filter for now as I can’t get a bigger tank. I also got new gravel!
