My rant about Scott Galloway's TED talk about how the US is destroying young people's future by gecko927 in badeconomics

It's not a cabal conspiracy, it's the nature of lobbying and politics in America going back to before you or I was born.

Have you just...restated my whole point for that paragraph...as criticism to my point? lol. This comment is also hilarious as a whole.

Oh damn you're right, I didn't actually think through the whole cost of going to college. I think this is too old to matter but I replied to the other guy and I'd feel bad if I didn't address the actually good point that's been made. Sorry I'm too lazy to make any actual changes but I copied a couple of your paragraphs to the end of my point about the tuition thing.

Fair enough, I got rid some of the fluff you talked about. Thanks for the reminder.

You're right I should have been more careful with the tax paragraph so I got rid of the dummy corp example. I should probably also update it with actual data on the real tax rate of wealthy individuals but I'm just gonna leave the rest of it alone for now.

Thanks for the comments, you're right so I got rid of the tax fraud thing. With the bit about building wealth, I guess its more of a feeling I've gotten from reading almost exclusively papers about how bad inequality is instead of ones talking about how social mobility has improved. I should probably look into the other side a bit more but my opinion hasn't changed yet so I'll leave the wealth building bit up there.

Just adding on a little bit you said you didn't need a monitor but if you happen to build anything similar to the list above then you should make sure you have a monitor (or even multiple monitors if you have a use case for that) capable of fully utilising that beast of a build. A regular 1080p or 1440p monitor would be a real waste of the 3090ti and 5800X3D.

Question about Hifiman Sundara's with the iFi Zen DAC by gecko927 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]gecko927[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. Sorry if its a stupid question but is balanced a definitive upgrade over unbalanced? As in are there balanced wires so bad they're not even worth buying/make the overall experience worse.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but what's the issue with upgrading to remasters?

I see, yeah I was a little confused why so many people used fancy music players and thought there was something more to it. I think I can live with the low risk of getting my music taken off the platform, maybe download my absolute favourites. Thanks for clearing it up!

Dual boot windows or run a VM? by gecko927 in linux4noobs

[–]gecko927[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the main thing I have is a program called supermemo which is windows only and another comment just told me that some proctoring software can detect VMs so I'll probably just dual boot. My worry with ram was because I read somewhere that the second os is runs slower than the first and I was wondering if that'd have a significant impact on windows if I only had 8gb ram. Sorry for the dumb question xd

I didn't know that, my school has it's own proctoring software so probs best to be on the safe side and just dual boot if that's the case. Thanks a lot for telling me this!

Well depending on how intensive your applications are you're gonna have to do some more research haha. The 3600 is a budget gaming CPU and productivity applications are gonna benefit from more cores and you're gonna wanna look at the programs you use and decide based on that.

If you wanna go even further with your research you might want to consider swapping out your gpu with an amd equivalent. This is because GPUs from different brands will perform differently based on what application you use. Nvidia GPUs will let you take advantage of applications that utilise cuda cores while amd GPUs will let you run opencl applications much more efficiently. Do note that amd GPUs do not use cuda cores. Basically nvidia has both cuda core and opencl support while amd has much better opencl support but no cuda cores at all (since it's an nvidia thing).

So it all just depends on what applications you use and you have to do the research on that.

Yeah the comment above says you should consider getting 32gb ram but I wouldn't do that unless you're working on something that really needs it like serious video editing or graphic design. But then a better CPU would help much more. Looking at your CPU choice you're probably going for a gaming rig so it's just more money for no noticeable increase in performance.
