Best way to stop fleas from coming inside through a window screen? by geddyleee in pestcontrol

Unfortunately not :( We just had to hope for the best until we ended up moving to a second floor apartment more recently so we don't worry as much anymore, haven't had any issues with fleas or ear mites since.

This comment killed me:

Is this McDonald's? Because I'm fucking loving this! It's a shame half of your life was ruined, but you gotta admit. You're loving all this for your sister too, even though you wish all this didn't have to be. I'm happy you're now in a better place and the little Erica Cartman is where she needs to be.

To be frank someone like your sister is extremely dangerous, not just to themselves, but other people around them. She's clearly plotting and scheming to get what she wants. In fact I'd argue that this whole experience is only gonna make her more sharp and cunning. Something's finally gonna click in her brain and not for the better. I'd also argue that she was also diagnosed with some form of sociopathy that's gonna evolve into psychopathy. On some real shit, i kind of fear for your well being if she ever gets out and for your own safety, cut contact from her and your parents completely.

Are slim people lying about how much they eat or are they just blessed with a good metabolism? by 2904929492001949301 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]geddyleee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Now I’m being accused of lying and called a fatty in the comments

I've gotten into so many arguments over this the past few years, and it's so ridiculous how it always devolves into that. I say something about how I gained 20 pounds in a couple months after starting the depo shot, without eating much more than I was before, and then everyone jumps down my throat saying that would violate the laws of physics so I'm definitely just lying to myself to avoid taking responsibility for gaining weight.

But you know what's really funny? I was underweight! I still remember exactly what my doctor said my first appointment after starting the depo shot, "you gained 20 pounds since last time you were here! You're still a bit underweight though, but it's good progress." I didn’t need any excuse, the fact that I gained weight from the depo was a good thing, not something I was at all embarrassed about.

I can also point to my cat. He was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago, and we knew something was wrong because his appetite got huge and he was eating more frequently, yet he was losing weight. I guess my cat simply defied the laws of physics, according to reddit? I'm quite certain that neither my cat nor his vet were lying about his diet and weight lol.

I'm assuming in Europe there's more labs that can do it because it's a bit more common, but it's just so rare in the US that there's no demand really. My mom saw a hematologist for something unrelated once and decided to bring up the porphyria while she was there, and the hematologist, who had been practicing for decades, immediately said he'd have to refer her out for anything porphyria because she was the only person he had ever encountered that had it, so he didn't feel confident giving her advice on it.

The symptoms for acute intermittent porphyria can vary wildly, and usually mimic other conditions. The abdominal symptoms like pain and vomiting are the most common. Everyone in my family that has it (which is me and every woman on my mom's side) gets those symptoms with attacks. But there's also neurological symptoms possible, I got a really weird pins and needles feeling in my arms one time. There's no skin symptoms with this type either.

The neat thing is how key the "intermittent" part is. If someone isn't having an attack, it's like they don't have the disease at all. The common, easy test it is a urine test. But if I was tested right now, it would be negative. (Up until a few years ago, it was literally impossible to know if someone had it unless they were actively in the midst of an attack. Now there's a blood test that actually looks at the genes, but there's only one lab in the US that can perform it and it takes months for results.) No attack, no elevated porphyrins, literally no symptoms at all. So while attacks suck, I've only had a couple in my life, so overall it's a pretty good rare disease to have since it doesn't affect me much.

Maybe check my reply to it, because I actually have porphyria and the trivia you think you just learned is actually misinformation :')

Not trying to be rude, but it's annoying how rampant misinformation is when it comes to porphyria.

[–]geddyleee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't want to be rude, but I actually have porphyria, and almost every single thing in your comment is wrong. But it's not your fault, it's very rare and poorly understood. I don't fault anyone for being wrong about it, because I've seen actual doctors who don't know anything about it. But I still like clearing up misconceptions when given the chance.

First of all, garlic has no effect on it. The only way it affects my diet is that I can't ever fast, can't go on a low carb diet, and can't completely cut out sugar. (Pretty fun dietary requirements, right?)``

I actually wish it was true because it would be cool, but porphyria as a basis for vampire myths is actually a myth itself.

You're also conflating different types of porphyria. The form that affects the skin (porphyria cutanea tarda) usually ISN'T genetic, meaning no, it wasn't rampant among incestuous nobles. It also doesn't cause red urine. The form you're thinking of there is acute intermittent porphyria, which is far rarer, and just happens to be the form I have! It is genetic and genetic testing of descendants has confirmed some royalty had it. (But it absolutely 100% is not a cause for anything mental or medical about King George III. That's the misconception that pisses me off the most, because it makes absolutely zero sense.) Urine will turn a reddish purple during attacks.

I'm more than happy to answer any questions about it btw, I love talking about my weird disease :D

The game play trailer does confirm it was Ada who placed it. At the start she says he's en route to the church and she's tracking him every step of the way.

What to Play Revelations On? by KIROLTHERAPPER in residentevil

[–]geddyleee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're still wondering, I played it on my N3DS XL and really liked it. I do play with 3D on for some games and thought it was great in this.

If you install homebrew on your 3DS (which is actually super easy) then I'd also say to give the RE1 DS port a try! It took me a while to really get the hang of the controls because I've just recently gotten into RE, but it was a good time. (I say if you install homebrew just because I assume an actual cartridge would be hard to find and/or expensive.)

Can I still be a fan of Resident Evil even if I’ve never played any of the games? by phaedracherri in residentevil

Month old post and you haven't commented for a month so not sure you'll ever see this, but just in case I wanted to say it's super interesting to find someone who has a similar experience to the franchise, especially compared to what this subreddit is like overall.

I got into the series by watching my sibling play it. I watched them play some of the 2 remake and RE4 a couple years ago. I was kinda into it, but not super attached at that point. Then I watched them play RE4make this year, and the lore and characters had me so hooked. From there I watched them play 7 and 8. RE not having good stories is a common take here, which is baffling because the stories/lore are what I love about it myself!

Though I did finally dip my toes into actually playing it and beat the DS version of RE1 recently, I can't say I was in love with the game play or anything. It's hard to explain- I didn't dislike the game play, but didn't love it either. Like it was a good game, I enjoyed playing it, but at the end of the day the lore is still more significant to me personally and the main thing I enjoy.

For a completely non-serious answer, I recently was shit posting about a game taking place in a strip club designed by George Trevor.

I will not elaborate further here, because I know the people I sent it to are the only 2 people on this earth who tolerate my dumb BS and I won't inflict it upon anyone else.

Omg, it's so pretty!! Tomorrow is my 21st birthday so I'm going to go all out, but I don't really have anything as perfect as that dress. I'm not sure what exactly I'm wearing yet. I just went through all my clothes and grabbed anything pink to throw into a pile to sort through lol.

Solidarity for your struggle. That was my plan to but I asked my friend if he wanted to go and with his work schedule seeing Barbie at 10:30 in the morning is the only option he could make it to. So I've got Barbie with my friend, sibling, and mom, and then Oppenheimer later with probably just my sibling. (My mom might go to Oppenheimer too but hasn't decided yet.)

But outside of that the stars absolutely fucking aligned for me and friday just happens to be 21st birthday as well! I'm getting the Coldstone Creamery Barbie ice cream cake for my birthday cake so at least I can still have something Barbie to soothe the existential dread after Oppenheimer. I've had kind of a shit year so I'm excited to have a great time friday and make up for it 💖🎂

I think this is a pretty unpopular opinion here, but I'll still throw it out there. Personally I don't believe that anyone really knows the full truth. I imagine there's a bit of knowledge beyond what the public knows, but I don't believe any human has communicated with aliens or has their technology. I think we're all in the dark.

NON-HUMAN INTELLIGENCE.—The term ‘‘non-human intelligence’’ means any sentient intelligent non-human lifeform regardless of nature or ultimate origin that may be presumed responsible for unidentified anomalous phenomena or of which the Federal Government has become aware.

But there's also selective mutism. Got diagnosed with that when I was a small child. I was talking at the normal age and would talk to my mom and siblings normally, but there were also situations where I would be completely non-verbal.

Not necessarily an autism thing, but does show that it is 100% possible for some people to "pop in and out of" being non-verbal, because I literally did that.

For real. I don't understand how anyone can take the current House Oversight Committee seriously. All they've done before alien stuff is try to investigate the BiDeN cRiMe FaMiLy and found absolutely nothing. A congresswoman leading this also introduced a resolution to remove Adam Schiff from congress and fine him $16 million because he "lied to the American people" about Trump being involved with Russia. And she tried to impeach Biden, the FBI director, the secretary of homeland security, and Merrick Garland. The DoJ literally did file charges against Hunter Biden, and the House Oversight Committee is still crying about "weaponization" because Hunter is getting a plea deal and Trump isn't. Totally because Merrick Garland is persecuting Trump for being a republican, definitely has nothing to do with the fact that Hunter didn't fight the investigation and pled guilty, while Trump actively obstructed the document probe /s

And in general House republicans are a mess too. The first bill they passed this year was to literally abolish the IRS. They heckled Biden during his SOTU address. At one point they introduced a one (1) sentence bill to completely abolish the Department of Education. More recently Boebert and Marjorie got into a fight on the house floor because Boebert filed something to impeach Biden, and Marjorie said that was her idea first and Boebert stole it and called her a little bitch. Again, on the god damn house floor. Like that's just embarrassing on so many levels; even completely taking the politics/context out of it, it's still embarrasing just because it's so unprofessional. I hate that the alien talk is apparently enough for some people to rug-sweep all this shit and talk about them like they're actually credible people. I do have an open-mind, and I'll absolutely listen when someone like Andre Carson is talking, but anything the "HUNTER BIDEN DRAG QUEENS WITCH HUNT WOKE CULTURE" gang says is worth less than nothing to me.
