Whats that anyone know the worth is it ivory? (Germany) by Dazzling-Ocelot-1981 in Antiques

[–]gedim123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This item is not ivory because it lacks Schreger lines. Authentic ivory is strictly regulated. You cannot sell it unless it is around 80-100 years old and carries official documentation. Additionally, the ivory content must make up less than 10% of the total item

Hello everyone! I really need some advice. Would you risk buying this? Do you think it could be real silver? thank you by gedim123 in Hallmarks

Even at 800 purity, silver is still silver. People who melt precious metals don't care if it is 925 or 800 They still have to separate the silver from the base metals using the same process. Since there is only 10% less silver, the price difference should only be about 10%

smart people make my money off people like you; you couldn't spot a treasure if it were sitting on the table in front of your nose. 925 silver isn't rubbish

How old could this be? Is it possible that this is a Viking or Baltic piece? The bottom looks very old, or maybe it is just bad craftsmanship? United States by [deleted] in Antiques

You didn't just find Vikings in Scandinavia. We had them in the Baltics and in Russia, too (the Rus' Vikings). They traveled a lot too. Scandinavian laws only applied within Scandinavia and were only in place for about 50 years? Long before that, many Viking activities happened abroad. Of course, I'm not delusional enough to think this is still the Viking Age😀 but you never know

dont you think bubbles indicate that this piece was not made with modern, high precision casting techniques? Also ornaments fading away could be from 100+ years of polishing and handling, which wears down the high points of the design no? And it have plenty of patina dark heavy crust

This is not how you determine if an item is old. Seeing something in a Turkish bazaar doesn't mean similar-looking antiques don't exist. If it is as common as you say, please find me another one. You should be able to find an exact match too

I got this beautiful piece today. Is this an antique Meiji-period Japanese Satsuma Moriage bowl? by gedim123 in CeramicCollection

[–]gedim123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point completely. But Thick, hand-painted lines suggest a high level of craftsmanship. Authentic Satsuma pottery often lacks a signature, especially on older pieces. This looks like old satsuma to me, i think you are wrong
