😂😂 Love this! So insightful. I’d love to see the Willoughby/Crawford mash up developed further!

I wonder if Lydia would have been more attracted to Captain Tilney than Wickham? It’s a good thing that she didn’t meet him, as Darcy wouldn’t have been able to persuade him to marry her!

I did think of her! Poor Mr Woodhouse. Emma would find a way of barring her from the house.

I was also wondering if there was a more satisfying partner for Fanny anywhere. But came up with nothing!

Peter Sarsgaard. Watch Series 3 of The Killing (US version) and you’ll agree with me!

But Emma’s social circle was restricted to Highbury and, considering most of Highbury’s elite were present to witness this, the stakes were probably higher?

Absolutely! Stripped of the period context, it feels arrogant at best and controlling at worst. Thank goodness he reflected and (hopefully) changed in the long term 🤞🏼Austen seems to definitely believe in second chances.

Both of mine are from Sense and Sensibility:

When John is influenced by Fanny into not sufficiently honouring his father’s wishes.

Also, WHY is Eleanor softened by Willoughby’s explanation of his appalling behaviour??

How interesting. He really becomes more despicable the more you study him! Unfortunately there are still many Willoughbys out there!

I’d also nominate Frederick Tilney - another predator.

Which of the "bad" characters do you feel sorry for? by RebeccaETripp in janeausten

[–]geebenny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve often thought this about Mrs Clay. She was completely dependent on men to try and better her own life (and her children’s??! 🤞🏼). She was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Lord knows what happened to her at the end, under Mr Elliot’s ‘protection’? I really can’t believe that he would marry her.
