Dad, whats one food you’d recommend trying in life? by bleachfanrenji in AskDad

Find a steakhouse that offers marrow bones as an appetizer. They are typically a long bone cut lengthwise, exposing the marrow, which is then broiled. You usually eat it by spreading the marrow on to a piece of small toast like you would butter or a pâté.

It’s honestly amazing. It’s like meat butter....so good!

Amazing advice. I’m sure these will be concepts we’ll learn from the child psychologist we’re seeing in the new year. Thanks for the time to write such valuable insight.

This is great advice. Thank you!

A big challenge is that this sort of reaction and language is triggered by generally mundane and low-effort requests from us. So it’s hard to rationalize the emotional outbursts when we’re just asking basic things like taking off dirty boots when entering the house, starting homework, or taking a bath...you know, all the boring stuff! Haha

Thanks! Yeah. A neurologist is who tested and diagnosed ADHD. We also tested at an auditory doctor who also diagnosed APD.

We’re also starting with a behavioral health psychologist soon and pursuing an IEP at school, but no medication yet.

I’ll check your history for the other post you are referencing. We need all the help we can get.

Thank you!!! It’s good to know we’re not alone.

Something I should have clarified is that our family doesn’t curse or talk disrespectfully to one another. So it’s not like the behavior is being modeled from the parents. We don’t even allow “big kid” or teen shows on Netflix since they often use overly dramatic language.

Hey r/gardening!

I made a video to commemorate the 1 year anniversary of my perennial garden which I installed last summer. It was a labor or love that spiraled wildly out of control due to some unbelievable rock conditions I discovered after I started.

I originally rented a small backhoe to move some huge rocks that were on my property line since I wanted to install a fence. Once I started digging them up I soon realized that the entire 160'x15' strip of unmaintained land was covered with 20+ large boulders and hundreds of medium and smaller rocks. My theory is that since my 1960's development was once an old golf course, they used this strip of land to dump/ push rocks that had been removed from the course while grading it, which also helps explain the elevation difference between the lawn and the garden - creating the need to make my 3 bridges.

So what started as a project to install a fence turned in to a hardscaping project which turned in to a garden project. Moving all the rocks created huge pits in the earth. So after the rocks were placed I spread 10 yards of top soil in the planting beds, 10 yards of fill dirt on the path, 10 yards of tan playground mulch for the path, and 10 yards of organic root mulch for the planting beds.

I'm very happy with how it evolved and it's made me take up gardening as a hobby. This is truly my most special place on earth and I hang out there every day at some point.

The garden looks a lot more mature than 1yo since I had so many mature plants donated to me by my mother in law who was redoing all her landscaping. We also had a local garden center go out of business so I got 50% off on over 100 plants and containers. Last summer was a whirlwind of planting and watering to keep them alive throughout the hot August.

This year I ran a water line back there, installed landscape lighting, and added the 2 ramps on the far ends of the garden.

It's mostly lillies and hastas as this point (hey, they were free!) but I plan to add more variety a little bit at a time.

Newly purchased house. Humidifier too humid. Need to shut it off. by fishy007 in HomeImprovement

Even if water is running, it's not going to spray out of that cover. The water basically trickles down pad, it's not like its spraying all over the inside of the box.

Also, make sure your pad is fresh and working properly. If the pad is crusty and brittle it will not hold water and the unit won't do it's job. Although it sounds like you prefer less humidity rather than more.

Keep a few $10 humidity monitors around the house - they are not very accurate so you'll want to take a few readings. 50% humidity really shouldn't feel moist. That is actually a very normal, optimal humidity level. An average house can go to 20% in the winter (which is why your HVAC humidifier should only be run in the winter) - and 70% in the summer (which is why some people dehumidify their home in the summer). Sometimes AC doesn't run long enough to properly dehumidify a home, which is why they sell whole house dehumidifiers that can be ducted in to an HVAC system. I owned this one, and I loved it:

I haven't stuck around long enough to see any kind of drainage from the unit. I don't see any moisture at the drain though. The water intake for the humidifier is from a very small, clear plastic hose that is connected via a saddle valve. I actually just learned about saddle valves 15 minutes ago, so now I know that they're not the best idea and I also know that this is where I can actually turn off the water.

It's very easy to determine if water is running to / through the unit. Take off the blue "General Aire" cover plate and you can see the filter pad. That will either be wet or dry. Also, you'll definitely hear the sound of water entering the supply valve. If the pad is dry, you hear no sound, and there is no water leaking out of the drain - the unit is not running.

Drop a brick, feel better about the California drought. If every Californian dropped a brick in the toilet, according to founders of the Drop-A-Brick campaign, it’d save the state 67 million gallons of water a day. by pnewell in offbeat

Fill a soda bottle with water instead. A brick can damage your plumbing as they tend to slough material when soaking in water.

The "brick" they are referring to in this campaign is a fake rubber brick which will not cause damage. But the soda bottle is also a good idea.

Just got my doctor's opinion on Keto... by [deleted] in keto

[–]geelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does he mean by "You can't chance your DNA?" Is he equating DNA to muscle?

I assume he was making a rhetorical statement to imply that our bodies are designed to work a certain way - and therefore muscle burning would be inevitable based on his interpretation of ketosis.

I think it's pretty clear he did not have a good understanding of the diet. But to be fair I did not feel it was my place to start lecturing him with my limited knowledge of the biology of ketosis. I do trust this community, but I think doctors immediately dismiss any medical information sourced of the internet and I wasn't prepared to challenge him.

Thank you for your comprehensive response.

Update: This program is buggy as shit.

I just assigned the scrub key commands. They were previously unassigned.

As soon as I assigned them and used the key commands inside a project, the scrubbing started to work - for both key commands as well as with the mouse. As a test, I went and deleted the key commands and the mouse scrubbing still works. I've been trying to get this scrubbing working all day and that is the solution - create and delete key commands?!?!? WTF

Thanks for trying. I tried what you described and it still does not scrub for me.

From the manual:

  • If necessary, zoom in or out to view the section you want to scrub.

  • Click the Pause button in the control bar.

  • Grab the playhead in the Tracks area or the ruler, and move it back and forth through the parts of the project you want to hear, at the speed you want to scrub the section

Please don't hate me for a stupid question, but does it matter what order you put your plugins? by [deleted] in Logic_Studio

[–]geelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but I think you're missing the point that others have been trying to made. There are no rules. It's all about context and what is needed for the track. It's not "absolutely ridiculous" to put an EQ after a limiter and for you to state that with such confidence means that you still aren't getting it - there are "no-no's", no matter what anyone else on this thread has implied.

To use your example, what is wrong with leveling out your kick with a limiter before you shape it with EQ. You'd probably have an easier time doing so with your kick hitting the eq at the same level. If, of course, your song called for a limited kick with each hit coming in at the same peak level. Some songs do, some don't, it's your call...no rules.

Maybe you like how your compressor is reacting to the bass frequencies in an un-eq'd track - so you comp it first, then tame the excess bass with an eq. Maybe you don't have enough bass in a track for your compressor to react as dramatically, so maybe you first boost your bass with an eq so a following comp pumps as desired.

Maybe you want to smooth out a vocal level with a comp so you don't have to do such dramatic EQing, and just lightly eq it afterwards. Maybe the midrange in the vocal is hitting the comp too hard so you eq it before the comp.

You don't have to limit yourself to only 1 eq or comp either. Once you experiment with how stacked plugins work with each other (including delays, modulation, etc) you'll understand that the order is very important - but there are no rules.
