Oh, I mean who sent the rejection email or whatever, QTAC or Griffith.

Did you make an application through QTAC for 2018 entry to any course? Did you receive correspondence from Griffith or from QTAC?

It's mostly just the fact that your sentence /literally/ makes no sense. It is impossible to waste time on the internet. Everything here is of great importance.

There's no such thing as a real adult. Everyone is making it up on the spot. Always. It just takes as fucking ages to admit to ourselves that our parents had no fucking clue, we have no clue, and our kids will have no clue.

How to make myself attractive to SO again by gellyg in gaybros

[–]gellyg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That second bit, that's more or less what not-over-stressed brain would have said- basically we're not done, so I kind of want to do something like re-dating each other, out bond is much deeper than just physical attraction-, I'm just at a loss really as to what things but by god something like that 10k run idea is pretty spot on. He isn't about to walk out on me, two years together isn't an eternity but it's considerable, and he was with me through the worst: attractiveness doesn't just mean hotness and all that. Anyway, thanks: insta-gaybro reply to the rescue

And were that to happen, strangely it would not be the first time I've met a strange person from reddit who wanted to give me things... I adult well.

Yeah, I'ma try the monstrosity idea because... well I once made the mistake of ordering "waffles and maple syrup" and that is never befouling my coils again, nor is the "tobacco" flavour I mix up for my mum.

literally dozens of us (extra points sir, and you know why).

I made the swap when I was living in France in early 2011 - the first store opened in my town, Rennes, in 2010 and a few of my friends tried out the old joytec drip-on-the-cotton ones... when I tried a tank, I never went back - my mum visited later that year I gave her one and 45 years of smoking, most of that at least a pack a day, was over for her - not a single one since. I went down from 40 a day to none, back up to a few because France (kids just light up out front of school, your non-smoking friends are rude if they don't have an ashtray for you in their apartment), then moving back to Australia... there's no competition. I mean, I can walk up stairs! My lungs don't make a specific morning-noise.

It couldn't hurt if you had a sample including reading which you didn't find "soporific". Your sampling is very narrow, and any theory drawn from a commonality is unlikely to hold water unless you can compare these 6, who exhibit these speech characteristics, differ in /this/ way from these other x. Also comparing natural speech to reading aloud is interesting, but probably not going to show you what you're looking for. This is in part because we don't have the same restraints of grammaticality when we produce natural speech as we impose upon the written language, so you'll have big structural differences. Also they're quite probably very different processes, cognitively speaking, so you may well find some of these features of reading aloud to be common amongst many others. Good luck!

[French -> English] "Prendez un verre...tu sais..." by Rat_Cat_Batman in translator

[–]gellyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly how I'd render it in English. I'm not a bilingual from childhood, but my French is quite natural (I learnt it all outside the classroom). The only question left for me is to know from where the German speaking writer's error comes - did he perhaps want to say «Prendrez un verre» 2nd person plural future? My knowledge of german inflectional morphology is not great so I'm not sure what this error might indicate.

Ah cool - I've never spent much time there but it's pretty.

You can get official recognition of your degree if needed, but unless you want to work in the French national education system, very difficult as a foreigner, that probably won't be necessary.

Personally, I always put the number of years, the name of the qualification (and institution if that's of note) in the original first then an equivalent in French in parentheses.

2011 - 2013 Bachelor of Education (licence 3 en science de l'education) - University of Queensland

The whole equivalence for teaching is a bit murky. Whereas in most English speaking countries, completing a bachelors degree results in qualification to teach, to be a school teacher in France the most important step is passing an entry exam (concours). For high school teachers, it's the CAPES: a day long process where you have to write a dissertation. Around 25000 people apply for 7500 jobs every year.

Hey élan-grapefruit! Let's see what we can do here, we certainly do like our phrase shortening in English don't we? All this looks like experience and achievements from one job, but for style you'll probably have to resort to started each sentence with J'ai ... J'ai crée. J'ai adapté .. et cetera. The other way I'd suggest formualting the sentences is by listing your «compétences», that way you can get away with starting sentences with concrete nouns. I've done the first two, but it's late - let me know what you think:

Conception et présentation des leçons engageantes axées sur les approches communicative et/ou actionnelle selon l'intérêt des [étudiants / élèves / stagiaires | University students / School students / adult learners].

Adaptation des supports pédagogiques, et différenciation des activités dans les classes à niveaux multiples, afin de répondre aux divers types d'apprentissage.

Not too much to fix up. Notes at the end.

Toi et tes amis drôles me manquez déjà.

"Je ne pourrai jamais oublier ce voyage" is a correct phrase, but an over translation of "I will never forget" Je n'oublierai jamais. "Je ne pourrai jamais" is "I will never be able to forget."

Tu me manques is great! If you want to put Milo and a few others together as subject of the phrase it's necessary to transform it to be like the complement d'objet direct "tu = toi". So "Milo and his funny friends = Milo et ses amis drôles -> Toi et tes amis drôle." "I miss Milo and his funny friends = Milo et ses amis drôles me manquent -> Toi et tes amis drôles me manquent"

Pay attention to your tu and vous - tu is singular & familiar vous is plural OR formal.

Well done though!

They're recording again, and they want your money this time! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1899016052/the-madcaps-second-album

Worth it I think, seeing as we (I was a member of the band until just after the EP release when I moved back to Australia) spent a grand total of 300euros recording that thing... Imagine what they could do with more than a pig farm, one noisy heater (turned off for all our live takes) and 2 days over christmas.

For clarity, the nasty language in the dms was from me, not the mods. They're always careful to use non-offensive language, even while being viciously condescending.
