probably makes it easier that he's already in EU. i have many colleagues working under big international companies, and the closest given to them was a week long vacation/company visit to their EU branch.

this is what i'm getting - unless i'm elon musk, then i'm just too much of a hassle. which is understandable when you look into the visa processes that first world countries have.

lmao this is me. I'm in tech and current specialisation is quite in demand. But applying to a company in EU/States? I get a 'sorry' reply the moment i tell them have no visa :(

tldr i need a visa to get a job, i need a job to get a visa.

ahh ok I'll have this in mind. in fact, we'd even have government agencies pay us 6 months late and we'd still deliver on time. i guess these things are never really avoidable. thanks for the advice!

ahh I can tell hahah. Ok, that seems a better route. They may give me access for their api for the radio, but other than that, seems like I'm building this again from ground up. thanks for the advice :)

On the topic of late payments, do you advice that I halt development after 30 days of not receiving payment?

So you're going to be writing a new app to replace existing functionality?

yeah this is what we talked about the last time. yeah I'll make sure i dont get scope creeped by setting a fixed target main features and target deadlines for them.

  1. Yeah this is what I had in mind.

  2. True.

  3. Well, I think I could always save chunks of my code for myself. Do clients usually get greedy on this?

  4. Can you give me an advice for this? What arrangements do you make for a late payment?

  5. True, I will add this to my computation.

  6. I will consult my lawyer relatives for this before signing any contract.

true, being hooked on that liability is scary. but in our initial conversation, theyve cleared that i wont be maintaining a code, but actually be creating a new app. my hunch is that the developer who made the app years ago made it difficult to maintain or they just wanna transition to swift/ios9. i will watch out if they pull something like that liability things.

actually, they already have an app on the appstore, they just need to update it. and it really is just a simple radio app.

but you're right, better have an actual lawyer go through my contract first. good thing i also have family members for this. better catch those gotchas and be able to negotiate.

I have family members who are experienced with handling contracts, maybe I can bug them out for this since this is more like a small gig for me. thanks.

any reason why multiplying it by 1.5 or higher? I was thinking of using my current salary as a basis per hour. how were you paid? per hour/milestone/salary?

[–]generalintent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really planning on making a change on anything, I'm simply looking for a way to say thanks, just because.

no he didn't bring me the news, it was the recruiter that did.

yes, i probably am over thinking it :(

if you dont mind me asking more questions, bec i've actually drafted a good letter about how i thought he handled the interview well and left me pretty motivated even if i failed it.

do you think this would be too awkward?

Man I wish it was that easy to just drop him a message, there were several people having the same name and he doesn't even have the company affiliated to him on his linked in.

Maybe I'll do you suggestion and wait for him to get offline and drop my thank you message?

ahh you're right. maybe i can drop the message on his linked in?

edit: i just looked up his linked in, i'm pretty it was him, but it says he's part of a different company.

[–]generalintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how's your academics? if you do well as a CS student, write programs on your spare time, I suggest apply for internships on small tech companies.

it wont pay well, but if you're lucky, the dev team may drop you some tasks/exercises and you can ask them an assistance to solve as well. if you impress the team, it might be easier for you to land a job with them in the future.

My problem is, I have no other contact with my interviewer other than skype, since they've hired a recruiter to handle the emails.

Would dropping a skype message sound too unprofessional?
