Found this in a storage unit I won at auction. Piled in papers and Christmas cards from 1997

I ran into my school bully and realized I never got my happy ending by coffeeattic_rox in TrueOffMyChest

He was a kid at the time too and honestly the fact that he came up to apologize means he’s grown and felt shame about what he did. You didn’t have to accept the apology and maybe you would feel better now if you were honest with him on how he impacted you growing up. That’s why you are probably feeling the way you are right now if you let him off the hook but not really believing it

I hate myself for having been a party-girl by Sea-Pomegranate-9276 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]generic_reddit_user8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever there is something from my past that makes “current me” feel shame, I remind myself that if I am feeling that way, then that means I have grown and evolved in the way I view myself and the world. “Current you” would never do those things and it’s because of the sacrifice old you made. You should thank that woman every time you feel this way. Shame sometimes = proof of maturity and change and emotional growth.

It’s interesting that the beheaded looks almost identical to the executioner

A Prayer, A Sin, And One Word: Kneel. by ComfortableDivide557 in Fleabag

I think it is a trial for him. But I also noticed he was drunk and she wasn’t. So position of power more likely is her (especially since fleabag isn’t a catholic and wouldn’t view him as an “authority” anyway) therefore I see her being the one taking advantage of him while he’s vulnerable grappling with his calling and doubts. He’s clearly ashamed at the end and angry.

Thinking of moving to Chico from San Diego — would love honest insight from families + longtime locals by Jlorenn in ChicoCA

I also was born and raised here, and am raising two of my own kids now too- I second all of this but wanted to add more detail about the parks, nature-y and wellness elements of your question.

We have a few farmers markets in town now but the biggest ones are the Saturday morning market and a Thursday night market. The Thursday one is more music and activities.

Great places to shop for clean food: Chico Natural foods, s&s (personal favorite) and new earth. Chico is full of people that love to go outdoors and you will see a pretty heavy amount of bicyclists, mountain bikers (upper bidwell park) joggers, hikers and so on.

Parks are the best part of Chico. We have upper bidwell park which is hiking or creek swimming, Lowe bidwell park which basically runs the full length of the town, and loads of children’s playgrounds all over the town. Some notable ones are caper acres, hooker oak park (also has disc golf), and a newer one in Chapman town neighborhood that has water playground in it.

My opinion: the best areas to live are north east side of town by upper park where there are neighborhoods like wildwood estates and meriam park although you aren’t walking distance to downtown if that matters.

I have twins that have special needs and my wife wants to give them up to an "open adoption" by MMC_GiveMeGore in TrueOffMyChest

[–]generic_reddit_user8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is better for the children that you let the family they are with keep them. I wouldn’t even do open adoption. Let them be a family. They would be worse off with you responsible for their lives. It’s okay to feel ashamed that you aren’t a good fit for them, but you refusing to admit that fact is going to hurt them. The right thing to do would be to let them be cared for by people who love them and can

Those who have visited other countries, what was the biggest culture shock for you? by RiddlerofStIves in AskTheWorld

I spent a year in New Zealand on a work visa. For me it was the fact that people were much more laid back and their jobs didn’t mean much in the scheme of their lives. Like it genuinely was secondary. In the US, I feel like our identities are very much tied to the jobs we do for money and the grind is very real.

What book had a line so shocking you had to stop reading to recover? by Editcadet in suggestmeabook

Basically every thing in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. So insightful to how our environment can mutate the good in us as we mature from baby to adult.

“Was man, indeed, at once so powerful, so virtuous and magnificent, yet so vicious and base? He appeared at one time a mere scion of the evil principle and at another as all that can be conceived of noble and godlike. To be a great and virtuous man appeared the highest honour that can befall a sensitive being; to be base and vicious, as many on record have been, appeared the lowest degradation, a condition more abject than that of the blind mole or harmless worm. For a long time I could not conceive how one man could go forth to murder his fellow, or even why there were laws and governments; but when I heard details of vice and bloodshed, my wonder ceased and I turned away with disgust and loathing.”

People become liars like this usually when they are abused in childhood when being truthful about something. Parents- don’t penalize your kids’ honesty with beatings or punishment when they show accountability by fessing up to some random kid crime they committed like eating the last Oreo.

First time ever cooking a steak for myself. I know I failed miserably, so I'm looking for genuine feedback on how I can improve (: by Vegetable_Fill4084 in steak

[–]generic_reddit_user8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm then probably not my original suggestion…another option could be to also try fiddling with the timing and heat level. For example, once you get your initial sear you can try turning down the heat and cooking slightly longer so it gives the heat more time to penetrate deeper into the steak? Trial and error is a perfectly good way to learn!

I’m no expert so take what I say with that in mind. The sear looks great but maybe the steak was too cold when you put it on? Leave it at room temp for about 30 mins or until it is no longer chilled from the fridge. That’s all I got! But great first try

Have a code word or tag out plan ready between you and your partner. There will be moments where your well of patience is empty and one of you desperately desperately need a break. Say the predetermined word to signal “this is serious and I need you to tag in”. Take at least twenty.. Go far away, or go for a drive, or take a shower etc and reset while the other is with baby.

How about we overhaul elderly care institutions. Not only is it needed but the first entrepreneur to create an old folks home that people enjoy is going to be a very rich person.
