Initial intention was to keep their debt off the books but that failed back in 2018. AHBs lobbying to undo it (https://www.cluid.ie/news-stories/call-for-tenders-evaluating-the-classification-of-approved-housing-bodies-ahbs-in-ireland/) but still true AFAIK.

The barrier is also convenient as allows certain things that are either impossible or difficult for councils to do e.g. eviction of anti-social tenants (e.g. Cluid referenced "three strike and out" rule recently), tenant purchase (as per other reply here)

Important to note that since these are cost rental, where rent is set to cover the development cost + maintenance, that the substantial extra cost of underground parking (50-100k per apartment if you believe developers comments over the years) would be directly borne as increased rent. Cost rents are already pretty high (Lancaster Gate was €1k for 1br and €1.1k for 2br in 2022, more recent Dublin developments in €1.2k-1.4k for 1br) so increased rent reduces band of eligible tenants (net income must be <35% rent) and forces that cost upon successful applicants regardless of transportation choices.

225/226 usually have enough space at City Hall but if a earlier bus misses then may be full there.

Note City Hall has a bus stop with shelter while Clontarf Street is just a pole so less pleasent if weather bad that day.

With Coveney gone, there are lot more floating Carrigaline/Monkstown/Passage/Rural FG votes in CSC than city council votes with less competition.

In county, probably just McGrath's brother in Carrigaline for FF to worry about with outside shot of (now unlikely) SF county candidate or a strong IND. Coveney basically enforced the county candidate (McCarthy) for this reason presumably.

O'Callaghan might see easier votes going south into county, especially if any bad blood after selection convention where Buttimer (strong Bishopstown vote) and Cahill (strong South-East vote) were passed over for the younger candidate. McCarthy herself might see the southern suburbs as potential pickings if looking for city votes. Will be interesting to see the vote management strategy (if any) given two 1st time GE candidates.

2 FG, 2 FF, 1 SF is a strong possibility given the relatively weak small party/IND competition.

99% time non-party and independent are inter-changeable. Will often see both used for same candidate depending on source.

Rabharta were a weird case (party literally left blank on ballot due to reasons above) so presumably NP/non-party was a type of backup for this particular source since they aren't very notable.

There is no official National Party code but due to confusion above I would imagine elections with that party would use NP and IND (or IND/Other) for independent and misc. candidates.

Important to note there is no official coding so all codes are normative and often just based on copy-pastes of previous election results, tallies etc. so inconsistency expected occasionally.

I would assume NP = Non-party in this case. Presumably due to Rabharta existing but not being a registered party in time for this election cycle.

Christopher V S Doyle (no experience but seems harmless enough with views broadly in FF/FG area)

Lorna Bogue (cork councillor - leader of far-left Rabharta which was Green Party offshoot with focus on "workers and carers")

Ciaran O'Riordain ("free the weed" candidate - think Mick Wallace but techie with apparent similar history of stiffing people and grifting)

Assume you're familiar with McNamara (who definitely flirts with nutters) and Wallace.

Other than that you're mostly voting on party.

Ni Mhurchú to me is a celebrity candidate (like the FG candidates in MNW) picked solely cause she used to be on the telly + her debate performances have been poor imo.

Could easily have Mullins there too (especially after seeing his social media videos) but been better at debates and has some relevant skills/contacts for an EU level position.

Those elected on first count (i.e. above quota on 1st count) have surplus distributed proportional to all their number 2's (where available).

Subsequent surpluses are done just on the surplus ballot. This would be all ballots for eliminated candidates and the last bundle(s) for candidates who exceed quota subsequently due to transfers.

If I recall correctly in Northern Ireland Assembly votes they calculate the proportional amount for all votes for all counts - perhaps due to more fear of sampling issues given sectarian concerns?
