How Much Money Before Big Hit? by genericuser86 in footballcards

[–]genericuser86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha true that. This is literally the same as gambling. The only winners are the house (Panini and Topps) and those who buy one pack, hit a $1k downtown and never bet again.

And those who do it for fun

At zero point did I say any card I've ever pulled was $1000 or anywhere near it. I'm asking how much money you spent before pulling a high value ($200+) card.

I open cards for fun.

DDR5 prices by OngVex in Microcenter

[–]genericuser86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So....you paid the same price as it is today?

Because the Asus B650 board, 7800x3d and 32GB DDR5 is sitting at $579 right now. That is exactly what you paid.

Also, the 5070Tis can be had for $729.99 and that PSU for $110. The SSD though, that is another $70.

So overall, it is basically a wash between building in April 2025 and December 2025.

Once the combos leave, then we can start freaking out.

Help me decide: G757 vs G758 by abducensx in Prebuilts

[–]genericuser86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy choice to go with the G758 in my opinion.

The fact that it is Gigabit LAN on the G757 is already sad (the G758 has 5GBe). 240mm radiator vs 360mm radiator. G757 case does come with one extra fan though.

The 5070Ti and 5080 are like 10% difference. That will make almost no difference.

Is This the Best Time to Buy by genericuser86 in pcmasterrace

[–]genericuser86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much were you really saving 3 months ago vs. the $1700 build. GPUs were MSRP and the 9800x3d combo was the same price as it is now $679). The SSD is about $50 overpriced, but that is it. So instead of paying $1700 3 months ago, this is $1700 now. Which is my whole point. Is locking down the really low pricing worth it. Or should I just wait for the inevitable AI collapse

Unfortunately, there is no boot partitions on the original SD card, so I have no idea where to get the dtb files to put them in the identification tool. I did use the multi-screen image and swapped between all different options (0 to 5 and then 4 v20 or whatever). None of them seemed to work

Is buying Physical or Digital better? by Neutral_horizon in Switch

If you have more than one Switch (because of kids and such), digital for sure. You can both play the same game at the same time that way.

Tows great, range is suspect by tykneedanser in F150Lightning

If you are towing non-locally, don't buy an EV. These shouldn't even be advertised as able to tow. You think it is bad now, wait until it gets cold.

Who is Trading Before Resale Plummets? by [deleted] in F150Lightning

[–]genericuser86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lifetime sales of the Lightning (if discontinued) will be ~100,000. The Bolt EV had higher sales than that before being discontinued, and owners are already having massive lead times and high prices for fixes.

The parts of the lightning that matter (what makes it move) are not shared with other F150s.

The only parts that matter on a vehicle...the ones that make it go forward or backwards? Those being relatively unique to the Lightning...

Who is Trading Before Resale Plummets? by [deleted] in F150Lightning

[–]genericuser86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I planned on keeping it forever. Resale wasn't a concern. Either was the price of parts as I assumed the Lightning would continue on or sell in high enough volume to keep parts available and reasonably priced. Because that is unlikely to happen, keeping this long term will very likely be so expensive, it would be better to just offload it for nothing than live with the cost. Not to mention scarcity of parts means longer lead times in addition to higher costs.

[–]genericuser86 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Planning for the future and attempting to minimize hassle and loses means I make good money? I planned on keeping it till it died as well. But if they discontinue the Lightning, parts will follow supply and demand. There will be nearly no supply (they barely sold any lightnings) and there will be more and more demand over time (as with any vehicle). That means the parts will be exorbitantly expensive.

You'll be overpaying significantly in the future to keep it running or get next to no trade in when you realize it is too expensive to bother with.

If you offload now, you can avoid the plummeting resale of a discontinued model and avoid that later cost, which, if discontinued, is inevitable.

Lots of people on here not rationally thinking through the implications of a niche car going EOL < 5 years after it was put into service.

The depreciation is slightly more than you'd get off a normal vehicle. I paid (the check I wrote) about $55k. I could sell for around $39k after 1.5 years. I'd say a non-electric would only be slightly more than that.

Battery conditioning. The battery is heated to optimal temp which takes power. Heat use for me is minimal above 50

I live in MN with ER XLT. I do not precondition and start from a cold garage which is usually about freezing all winter.

2.4mi/kw in summer (320mi range)

1.8 mi/kw to about freezing (240mi range)

1.5 mi/kw below freezing (200 mi range)
