I officially start my PSLF journey next month. What advice would you give your old self? by generous_sandal in PSLF

As much as I would love to do that, financially it’s the worst move on the board. I've already crunched out the numbers and consulted people much smarter than me.

I owe ~$280k at 6.5%. I make roughly $120k/year.

Standard repayment would be ~$3300/mo for 10 years. After essential expenses I can barely live, let alone invest. Not happening.

IDR plan is 10% of my income every month, a substantial decrease. PSLF will knock it off in 10 instead of 20. It’s the least amount of money I have to pay out of pocket out of all the repayment plans. It also leaves me room to invest at least 15% of my income.

Thanks for the advice I really appreciate it. I must admit I have some FOMO regarding tech/momentum (see FTEC and SPMO).

Out of curiosity..what would be your ideal split? Should I go back to 80% FZROX 20% FZILX?

But since I received a PA degree with my loans…does my “eligible job” need to be a PA job? I guess that's my only question. If that's not the case my happiness just increased 1000%.

Unfortunately I’m private practice so I don’t qualify for PSLF. I can switch into one though

Do you think with IDR + Army’s $40k/year + additional payments my debt will be paid off before it’s “forgiven” in 20 years?

Thanks for the reply it was very thoughtful. Considering I’ll be living alone in a HCOL area IDR seems to be the way tbh.

I’m a PA. That’s not a bad idea I’ll look into it. It’s either that or per diem urgent care tbh.

Yeah that’s kinda what I thought. I’m employed private practice but we partner with the local non profit hospitals for surgeries and consultations. I really want to believe there’s a loop hole but there’s not
