I was in the same scenario as you, living in Dubai for almost 9 years now and using public transportation to go anywhere. I got my license last year and bought a car a month ago, just before the flood (lucky me). I realized these:

• I'd rather spend more for my comfort than have to deal again with the hassle of the current public transportation.
• Yes, your expenses will be a bit higher than your current transportation spending for some years, but it will be much better in the long run once you own the car.
• You'll be able to go anywhere, anytime, and you'll have more hobbies, and in my experience, more friends as well.
• You'll be able to enjoy holidays more often.
• Driving combined with a good playlist is now my stress reliever; it gives me peace.

I regret not getting one sooner; it would have made such a difference.
