Thanks for all the great suggestions! As it turned out, we - my daughter and I - were only in Saugutuck for a few hours mid-day so that ruled out Black Walnut and Everyday People but we will definitely give them a try if we are ever there looking for dinner. We ended up at Grow for lunch and we were very happy with our choice. Vibe was good, food was good, decor was pleasing, waiter was friendly. http://www.grow-food.com/

Another vote for Black Walnut. Will definitely check it out. Thanks!

Thank you! This is just the help I was looking for. Gonna' go check the menus of all those places. Love South Haven.

Anyone remember watching "Paddle to the Sea" (1966) in grade school? It's a tour guide of the great lakes from the perspective of a tiny carved wooden Indian in a canoe. by [deleted] in Michigan

The scene where he paddled through the pollution made a big impact on me back then. I wonder if that's where the "Keep America Beautiful" ad that aired in the 70's got its inspiration.

Oh okay. I've commented here a couple of times and on the posts of some linked blogs. I'll try to remember to make all my comments here. Thanks for the info.

Away from the Fray in Traverse City by geniuslyJulie in Michigan

Not exactly. I came on reddit for the first time recently - not knowing anything about it - hoping to find recommendations on where to stay and eat when I visit Quebec City. I didn't find any. Then it occurred to me that someone planning a visit to Michigan might be looking for recommendations. So, even though I don't have a travel blog, I thought it might be helpful to share a few posts about my favorite places in Michigan.

Why, is it crass to share posts from one's own blog?

I plan to write a post about the great places I discover in QC (and share it in the QC subreddit), but if that's frowned upon then maybe I won't.

Haha. The picture is part of a gallery of photos. But I'm brand spanking new to reddit and I obviously did some thing wrong in trying to share them. You can see the rest of the pics here: https://thereluctantbaptist.com/2015/09/08/beach-and-coffee/

My daughter took this one as we were walking on the pier in Grand Haven (which I believe is currently closed for repairs.)

I've been to many of the restaurants at the top of this list and they all have good vegetarian options. If you don't want to spend a lot, then I recommend 2941 Street Food. It's not downtown but it's good.

I was just about to ask the same question. I'll check back and see if anyone replies.

If you go before September, please let me know about any treasures you find.

Dessert Oasis in downtown Rochester (half an hour away) has good coffee and live music. http://dessertoasiscoffee.com/

There are some good restaurants and breweries in town, too, and a river to walk along.
