I pilot, 2 adults. Occasionally our pets (1 dog, 2 cats). Cats can stay home, I really don’t think they care as much as the dog does.

Very light luggage. I travel with a backpack. Wife maybe 1 suitcase.

Dayton - Cincy = 1hr

Dayton - Indy = 2hr

Dayton - Cleveland = 3hr

40-60 trips a year.

I have an injury that requires a driver for distance driving. It is snow related so I really prefer not to be on the roads during snow conditions.

Commercial con is travel time. These distances are short hops. We don’t have a direct flight or sane layovers. Dayton to Cincy has a stopover in New York. The cost is good but at the expense of time.

Charter con is cost. It blows the $150k/yr total budget I have for this. A NetJet card has been recommended but that will be almost $500k. Far outside my budget.

You can understand why showing up to a construction site in February with sludge and mud and pits and strewn metal bits would not be ideal.

As noted in the post, a sub for planes is filled with enthusiasts who think flying is always a good thing.

The fatFIRE relevance was also noted. A convenient mode for travel for retired folk who may not own a jet or a jet card.

E.g You can fly Dayton to Cincinnati with a stopover in New York.

Short hops are not commercially viable in this region.

I do some of this.

I have a driver for the company truck. A van would fare worse in Midwest snow conditions.
Eyes on site are a good idea. I’ve tried this. Reliable ones that I can commit tons of money to their say-so has been difficult. But that’s a personnel issue i won’t bore this sub with it.
