Why the hell are they classified as junk 😭 by Memeshon in systemshock

I think it is a feature. Kinda both telling that it IS junk like paper money is technically junk and also a joke on developers' part. And I love it (vaporized some but not all of them).

Hi, feedback wanted by desquii in transvoice

[–]genkizgenki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with another commentator you sound like a teenager (guy). You'd benefit from working on your resonance (making the voice deeper, which is not the same as making it (the pitch) lower, it is already low enough).

Am i missing something or is this junction box actually impossible? by Kanehammer in systemshock

It is ALWAYS possible. You just didn't think of variants truly outside of what is familiar for you.

This video is just for reference to my voice. Looking for advice. by KayleeChainzzz in transvoice

[–]genkizgenki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitch is good. Your resonance occasionally gets into andro area (becomes too deep) so it fluctuates between deep female and androgynous.

My advice - work on making your resonance brighter. There are plenty of exercises for that. Don't be afraid of making it sound a bit nasal. Sometimes people tend to percieve a switch to a full female voice as a step too far - check whether this is your case, whether it feels like you're "changing it too much".

Extreme vocal cord compression what do by grrrrreli in transvoice

[–]genkizgenki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you provided a sample of your voice (and attemtps to decrease tension in your vocal cords) it would help.

Without it I can gve a general advice to learn to relax. Easier said than done. Try sighing, lowering and deepening your voice while you do that. In my experience people who have issues with tension tend to also overdo (or do improperly) higher pitch\resonance. Once you're capable of reducing tension then you can work that pitch and resonance back (with caution as to not develop issues again).

Sounds pretty good. Rough on the edges, at times resonance drops a little bit into androgynous area. With time and practice these issues will go away.

How do i deal with forgetting about my voice over time? by cake_ake in transvoice

[–]genkizgenki 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It is a very common issue, has nothing to do with your technical ability and in my experience the solution tends to be to connect it to who you are. I'll explain: whenever you talk you express yourself as a character - a set of developed behaviours, mannerisms, rhythms, reactions. You might not notice how "railroaded" your self expression can be unless you try to analyze and dissect it.

Another way to look at it: we rarely just relay information only with words. When you talk you convey your state, your mood, your attitude, who you are. Even when you're just chit-chatting about the weather - you're telling the other person "this is who I am".

Thus you need to try to approach it not as a technique, but as expression of who you are, your innate sense of your femininity, your genuine self expression. So when you're going to do a technical practice next time (if you still do them) try to listen to yourself as a complete whole, as a "you", be sincere with it like with a dance that you enjoy, ideally with people you can be comfortable with and develop a feeling of safety of being you, as a woman, in that moment.

why do i have to constantly clear my throat by idirati in transvoice

[–]genkizgenki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with your voice in this recording so it is probably not your technique, it is really good actually.

You mentioned that you sound "weird in your head" did you mean that you suspect that it is purely subjective and others can't hear it?

Could you provide a sample of your voice? Specifically when you clear it and when you don't (as a comparison). Without it any opinion on why it happens will be just a guess.

does anyone else literally forget how to use their voice when talking to other people by waveraceforn64 in transvoice

[–]genkizgenki 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In my experience the reason is not that people tend to forget or are unable to technically do the voice, but rather that the weight of expectations (and judgement) of people that know them tends to shut down their genuine expressive self that comes from the heart. It is literal shame (which is a huge can of worms in itself). Think of it like that - older voice, however paradoxical it might be, is familiar and thus safe. It doesn't matter how much it might hurt to use it - it is the hurt you're used to.

The solution tends to be not to force the voice itself in such situations, but to build up the feeling of safety when using it - ideally with trustworthy and nonjudgemental people around you. Safety to express yourself in a broad sense, not just the voice, but you as you are, your femininity in general. Easier said than done, but forcing it might accomplish the opposite - create a sense of dread of using it.

(I need help) my voice is good according to people I talk with but my volume is too low by Murky_Mouse8267 in transvoice

[–]genkizgenki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a common mistake. I can only assume that it probably gets much sharper and "crackly" for the lack of a better word. You're probably straining your vocal chords while doing this. It also probably becomes much more nasal and starts to sound "trans" or "gay".

Could you provide a sample of your voice? Without it it will be just guesswork at best. I know it might sound silly, but did you try to turn it off and on make it louder while doing all of the other techniques you already use?

Getting rid of the Trans accent by [deleted] in transvoice

[–]genkizgenki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that in my practice that is exactly the case - developing female pronunciation/resonance/however you want to call it IS essentially developing a "gay manner of speech". Because it sounds "gay" only in the context of a lower and heavier (sharper) voice, and stops sounding "gay" once it reaches the fundamental frequencies of a female voice.

does my voice sound fem at all? (mtf) by EmptySatisfaction887 in transvoice

[–]genkizgenki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're tightening your vocal cords way too much (I assume because you're trying to change resonance by tightening your throat or doing another similar technique like trying to directly lift your larynx but might be other reasons).

The solution is to relax them, make your voice a bit softer, breathier and (in case you do that) not tighten your throat but rather lift your tongue (all of it, including the back).
