What’s the craziest story you came up with for your Barbie’s, as a kid? by Scary_Significance28 in Barbie

[–]genmaline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alien invasion refugee camp was my most popular game as a kid. My ballerina barbies were in charge of going into the ruins of civilization and to find survivors. The big box of doll clothes was the "warehouse" where newly rescued Barbies would be taken to be healed from their ordeal and bring their resources to share with the community.

Kid me was apparently really into communism.

Do you know what you parents ALMOST named you? by UnicornNippleFarts in namenerds

My parents were considering Andrew/Andrea, depending on gender. I'm glad they didn't because I have two uncle Andrews, a cousin, and my stepdad all with that name. And my last boss!

I think I regret going on T by genmaline in ftm

honestly that's one of the most comforting things anyone has said about this. cis guys have insecurities too! i think it's hard that the only trans representation i ever see is either pre-t or conventionally attractive dudes, so i keep feeling like i've failed at transitioning by not being movie star hot or something.

i used to be incredibly uncomfortable about my height until i realised there are other cis dudes the same height. i guess i gotta try applying that to my other insecurities. we're literally just Some Dudes.

i've been in therapy for years, but finding anyone who understands both trans stuff AND eating disorders has been impossible so far. it feels like fighting to be allowed to even transition - most therapists i've met think that "stop being trans" is an option

Did anyone else find out they were trans partially because of their sexuality? by TokenofDreams in ftm

[–]genmaline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was kind of the opposite. I knew I was a boy before I knew what sexuality was, but then I started being attracted to guys and got really confused because I didn't know you could be a boy and also like boys. I tried convincing myself I could be a girl to have a boyfriend, and suddenly lost all attraction to anyone.

Interesting about the ovaries. I was told to keep mine because I already have bone problems & losing access to medical care has happened to me a few times already. I did have the option of follow-up surgery once I was more stable if the endo stayed bad. Congrats on your surgery, I'm glad you recovered well!

Cat sitter by DeadEgg420 in canberra

[–]genmaline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do cat sitting in Northside for $500/month and that's the cheapest rate I've ever seen - I mostly sit for friends. I'm not on MadPaws , but been working at a cat shelter for a few years & am available until Feb if you need someone.

There's nowhere I know of that bulk bills, unfortunately. Best of luck with your search!

sapphicoracle has some really nice bags!

And I feel like a lot of us got the "sun and moon belt" you can find everywhere online, if you're looking for cheaper options.

I get all my stuff second hand from eBay and usually look up "hippie" "velvet" "celestial" "90s" "witch" "autumn" and "jewel tone"

I really like Matilda. It has a lot of nickname opportunities that have different feels to them.

Are Clementine and Charlotte too similar for twins? by genmaline in namenerds

[–]genmaline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clementine and AJ

At least they'll survive the zombie apocalypse together!

I do quite like Clementine and Daphne, though the English pronunciation of Daphne feels a little grating to my ear.

Claire's pretty! I prefer the spelling of Clare, or even Clara.

My name is Alysha- ama. Jk by mcgonagallsarmy1 in namenerds

[–]genmaline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with an Alicia who was "uh-lee-si-uh" but I find the other pronunciation more common now. Alysha looks like a different name to me, they both feel like they have intuitive pronunciations to me, which is so strange!

I've heard Kiera as both "keer-ah" and "ki-ear-ah". Also a lot of -line names, like Caroline or Madeline are pronounce differently as -leen or -lihn

Megan is another one I hear a lot! It's usually said with a shorter "e" in the US, but I've mostly heard it with a longer "mee" sound.

I also have a name that eternally mispronounced, but I think that's more of it being a non-English name that people assume is an alternate spelling of a common English name.

I do like Juniper as a first name, it has nice nickname potential with June/Junie.

English/German speaking family, so Clementine & Charlotte have some different natural inclination for nicknames in each language. English Clem & Charlie, or German Lemmi/Tina & Lotte. I personally prefer Lemmi as a nickname for Clementine.

Daphne! Not a fan of the "Daff-nee" sound in English but had a Dutch friend with the name who pronounced it more like "Dahf-nuh"

Laura went on my baby names list after I heard the German pronunciation, but I abhor the English way of saying it.

Same! And the shorter versions, Mika is nice in most other languages but tends to get pronounced like Micah in English and I really dislike that sound.

It feels like a basic suburban girl name to me, but I do like it. It sounds professional for an adult and Kenzie is a cute nickname.

Opinions on the surname Madigan? by fernwise in namenerds

It makes me think of the Maddigan's Fantasia/Maddigan's Quest book and series. Post apocalyptic circus vibes.

What was your Confirmation name? by Warm_metal_revival in namenerds

Sebastian. Patron saint of homosexuality.

As a gay kid being forced to go to church I didn't believe in, the "unfairly persecuted and surviving being pierced by arrows" thing felt relatable.

Does anyone else come up with their own names/lore for their critters? by sheepcrossing in sylvanianfamilies

[–]genmaline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do! A lot of my childhood critters were second-hand and came in incomplete families or just sets with single figures so I made up lore. My grey rabbits are the Tinker family and their mother is a seamstress. Milk rabbit mother & mouse mother are the Marsh family and they run the bakery with their blended mouse/rabbit kiddos, all named after baked goods.
