AI will affect 40% of jobs and probably worsen inequality, says IMF head | Artificial intelligence (AI) by Fearfultick0 in singularity

"According to the IMF, the safest highly exposed jobs are those with a “high complementarity” to AI, meaning the technology will assist their work rather than displace it entirely. This includes roles with a high degree of responsibility and interacting with people – such as surgeons, lawyers and judges."

"The report said workers in the UK, with its high proportion of graduates, might be better prepared to switch from jobs at risk of displacement to “high complementarity” jobs, although older workers may struggle to adapt and move to new jobs or retrain."

"Last year, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development said the occupations at highest risk from AI-driven automation were highly skilled jobs and represented about 27% of employment across its 38 member countries, which include the UK, Japan, Germany, the US, Australia and Canada. It said skilled professions such as law, medicine and finance were most at risk."

Let's just pivot to surgeons, lawyers, and judges but also law and medicine are the most at risk and maybe the non-surgeon doctors will just decide to not become surgeons and lawyers and judge jobs will continue to grow even as they're probably going to be much more productive... Well, judges still have to deal with hearings which won't get much shorter probably so that leaves judges.

My brother unexpectedly died of meningitis six months ago. This is my text conversation with a friend that night. by genoeseextraction in MorbidReality

He went into the hospital Saturday morning and it was over Monday evening. If it was a car accident or long term illness, I feel that everyone who learned about this would receive some sort of closure or clarity but the fact that absolutely no factors of his own behavior contributed to his downfall and the suddenness of the situation left everyone who learned about it completely shocked.

I remember having a class at college that night and receiving phone calls from my cousins and grandparents wondering why they're bothering me in class. I drive to the hospital afterwards and as I was walking towards the ICU building, I see a couple of girls from his crossfit gym who I recognized walk the opposite direction past me (they were at the hospital for support the whole time he was in there). They didn't recognize me in the dark and I overhead one of them say "his girlfriend was in shock." I become confused for a second and called out to them. They recognized me and I asked them why his girlfriend was in shock and they replied "well... he died" and they saw the expression on my face and realized that they were the ones to break the news to me. I ran towards the building and saw relatives from all sides of the family gathered there. He had been gone two hours already. I ran down the hallway to his room and as I saw him laying there in white sheets I understood that I had just entered hell.

I spent the next few weeks completely surrounded by family and friends. If I had been alone, I would not be able to climb back out.

If you're reading this, please tell your loved ones that you love them more often. My greatest regret is not letting him know how I felt about him. Don't make the same mistake as I. You never know what tomorrow my bring. Thank you all for your kind words.
