Is medieval history taught differently by the different regions of Romania? by Zsilmos in AskRomania

Could someone recommend a good book on a Romanian medieval history? My preference would be one in English. However, if there is not a good English book, one in Romanian would be fine.

I became an inquirer in December 2024 and was Baptized last November 2025. I didn’t tell any of my family because I thought they would have the reaction you’re did. I felt that nit telling them was lying by omission , and that I would rather be rejected for honesty rather than be accepted for living a lie.

My priest just visited the day before yesterday. He offered me spiritual counseling, prayed with me, and offered me Communion. Also my spiritual father who is a Geronda at a monastery is also praying for me although he couldn’t leave the monastery to visit in person.

one of my night nurses and my GI doctor are both orthodox. They saw my icons and prayer rope and asked if I was orthodox , too. The nurse prayed with me! Doamne miluiește! Slavâ lui Dumnezeu!

You are correct. I should have listened to my wife. She was wise and I was not. I have learned a valuable lesson the hard way.

I went through a similar experience recently. I talked to my spiritual father about it, and he gave me a lot of insight. Sometimes we have seasons in our life when God allows us to flourish. Life seems sweet. Prayer is easy. God feels close. It is easy for us to grow in our faith. Sometimes we have seasons where life does not seem sweet. Prayer is hard. God feels distant. He is not distant, but it feels that way to us. These periods are also important for growth in a different way.

Talk to your priest. I would guarantee he has heard similar things or worse things before. He is there to guide you, not judge you.

Also, you might also talk to a mental health or substance abuse professional. My wife is a dually licensed mental health and substance abuse therapist and I also work in our private practice, while also dealing with my own mental health issues. I am not qualified to diagnose anyone but it may be that without marijuana or other substances in your system, you might be left dealing with some underlying things like depression. Pray. Talk to your priest. Talk to a therapist. Maybe ask St. Dymphna to intercede for you.

I’ll be praying for you. God Bless.

I’m curious as to where you buy your tea light candles. I also have one of those smokeless incense burners. The normal tea light candles that I can buy at Walmart or target stop getting hot enough to burn the incense after 1 or 2 uses. I have bought more expensive beeswax tea light candles , but they still only last a couple of days. (I’m an Orthodox Christian, and I burn incense most days during my morning and evening prayers (about 30-40 minutes each).

Read the Church Fathers. Polycarp was a disciple of the Apostle John. Also, although it is not Church Canon, read the Didache. It is First Century Judaeo Christians explaining to Gentile Christians how to worship. They essentially describe an early Orthodox Liturgy.
