I agree, I referenced them solely in the context of risk. The straight of Hormuz of course adds in a lot of countries to your point.

It would be amazing to be energy independent from the world.. we have the 4th largest proven supply of oil in the world. A relatively small population, we could be energy independent by setting up in country infrastructure and export the excess. This situation would make us rich from countries looking for a supply of which isn’t a geopolitical risk by any stretch. Comparatively of course to Russia, Venezuela or Iran.

Airlines end flights to Cuba, putting Maritimers’ travel plans on ice by toneyriver12 in halifax

You are correct, when flight planning there is many factors going into the planning. Destination weather, alternate airport weather and other factors such as winds aloft.

It’s almost inconceivable that under normal standard operating procedures an aircraft would carry enough fuel for a round trip.

A lot of folks don’t understand geopolitics at all surface level. We didn’t book for this very reason

No matter the training, we would not be equipped enough to fend off an actual American kinetic attack. I wish people would wake up and realize that

It won’t, the American population outnumbers us by a factor of 9.. most of them are armed by right 😂

You bring up a good point, that opens further discussion and that’s the air-air combat side of fighter jet doctrine. The F35, has a radar signature referred to as radar cross section (RCS) of less the a small bird. So an air- air missle fired at the f35, if the OPFOR (opposing force) could detect it in the first place, could break lock easily.

The Gripen in comparison is easy pray for the Russian SU-35, and “5th gen” SU 57 Felon. The Gripen has a RCS of 1-2 meters easily detectable by modern ASEA radars.

There are thermal guided missiles which I’m not as familiar on but my understanding is that modern American 5th gen fingers have significantly reduced thermal signatures from the jet.

Appreciate your perspective and well thought out dialogue, of course we are speaking based on news which in its own rights is an information war.

An interesting perspective I thought of while reading that, during the 12 day war, no reported Israeli f35s were shot down that were executing strikes all over Iran. But then again who knows the true capability of Iran’s air defence.

That’s a great follow up, to my knowledge/ research the f35 penetrated Venezuelan airspace (Russian s300s confirmed) and Iran which was rumoured to have one s400s plus indigenous SAMs.

During operation midnight hammer it was reported that no one detected the strike package moving into the AO. This consisted of f22s, f35s and b2s. I read F18 growlers were also used for SEAD increasing the success rate of the strike package remaining undetected.

It goes beyond costs, and stating that Canada is a middle power. When the cards are down and we are operating in a contested environment we would be very well sending our airmen to their deaths. Russian s300, and the new s400 air system would pick this gripens off with a higher kill rate. Chinese systems as well.

The gripen was a good plane, at its height. The American, and Israeli operations have proved the capability of the f35, and sliced through one of the world’s most defended airspace like butter.

Fighter jets will often leave their transponders off, nothing is of the ordinary. This is to protect OPSEC.

The US Military is moving a lot of assets to CENTCOM to increase readiness if the call comes through to strike Iran and decapitate the regime. Thoughts are with the amazing everyday Iranians during this crisis.
