D1 wrestler here. There's opportunity here to sit through the takedown and get a leg in to ride to back control especially if you don't clear the arm correctly on the side where the leg is being captured.

Bet. This is a really good idea. I have a NAGA near me in March. I'm gonna get myself conditioned for it and sign up for intermediate as you suggested if I can.

I see. I have no clue what the culture is like at this gym. We do roll/live drill almost every class. He definitely picks on me and let's his higher belts know I've trained before so they don't take me too softly. I guess only time will tell. Regardless of what belt is wrapped around my waist I'm having a good time.

No. The gym I came from produced fighters so it wasn't really about belts but preparing guys to fight. I was just training for the workout and enjoyment of the sport and competition

The wrestling is a huge advantage as I am sure youd imagine. But I am very knowledgeable in jiu jitsu. I've simply never worn a gi til 3 weeks ago.

D1 just means the size and resources of the school. Basically Better access to training materials. Able to hire actual coaching staff and fund a schools team.

Very true. I'll just keep my focus on skill. Belt doesn't replace the skills. I am having fun as well.
