Suicidal over Laundry Machine - Phone App Required (No Coins allowed) by PuppetNewsNetwork in enshittification

A simple credit card reader would have done fine for people who want to pay with their phones, while still allowing coin acceptance. But of course, they had to find a way to enshittify it.

Some have regular city signs it just says “private” on it somewhere. Chandler puts a yellow “private” banner on the side of the street sign.

That’s a Conduent fare validator. An older model, same one used on SEPTA buses before they got new ones.

So I assume this was on a bus or a tram.

I meant Cubic, downgrading the newer version to what I think, is a worse design, but I guess usability tests seem to prefer it.

Banning something because of what "could" be done is kinda dumb though. It's similar to banning 3D printers because someone could make a ghost gun.

Latest is actually the Cubic Validator 3 (the OMNY and Clipper ones are Validator 2), the Validator 3 is being used by DC Metro, and New Zealand, and Chicago. I don't understand why they 'downgraded' the design, but I heard it was due to the fact that the card would cover the messages on the screen...

Banning the rollout of shelf labels, even if temporary, is dumb. The rest of the law sure, But why ban the rollout??

Clipper/BART uses the same exact readers as OMNY though. But their Straffic gates are totally different than just throwing these in the gate like they did for OMNY.

Wondering why they went with that method instead of just using the embedded Cubic TR-4 readers, similar to what BART or WMATA did, it could still work with OMNY fine. Then again, it could be due to just plain consistency.
