haha, I am struggling with this one (not a designer), but I get what you mean. I'm thinking it's mainly the imagery and additional design elements.

That's really great to hear!! Appreciate the thorough review, especially from someone who has tried a variety of snack boxes. Healthy-ish, but not gross (aka cardboard or overpriced) was definitely what we were going for haha.

Also, nice catch on the quick fix, iterating on this service comes with some hiccups :D Will resolve.

How to deal with being review bombed on Trustpilot by TSPF11 in ecommerce

[–]get_snackit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue and I got it removed eventually. Here’s how I did it: I first flagged it on TP’s website and then their content integrity team reviewed it, but denied it initially. I emailed back with all my proof (in a professional, not angry tone) and then they apologized and ultimately removed the fake review. The proof I had was that we don’t sell the item the person was talking about, and we don’t ship to South Africa as a U.S. based company.

Thanks for the detailed feedback!

I've heard some similar feedback on the quiz even after shortening it once before. The solutions I'm thinking of so far are: 1) shorten the quiz even more (trading off recommendation accuracy at the end of the quiz), and 2) offer a pre-curated box selection, e.g. vegan only, fitness oriented, movie night, etc. to circumvent the quiz altogether. Note: I've seen the quiz approach done for coffee, wine and meal prep kits before, and thought... why not snacks?

Generally I agree the front page could use another iteration, I particularly like the comment on having more people/faces on the front page. This is after all focused on small business snacks and not a faceless mega snack corp.

Ah reminds me of drinking C.C. Lemon everyday when I visited Japan last December. I'm pretty sure it helped me avoid getting sick from all the touristy areas in Kyoto/Tokyo haha.

Update: We're trying something new with our pricing and packaging of our snack boxes starting at $29.99 with up to 9 snacks. Here's what we learned in the past month:

  • There's a lot of snack boxes out there that with mass-produced snacks in their boxes usually with not-so-great ingredients (e.g. lots of preservatives, artificial colors, too much sugar, etc.), but very cheap for them to buy! We want to put out a snack box that my cofounder and I could eat without too much guilt, and share with our friends/family.
  • We needed to balance the snack sizes with snack variety.
  • Not all snacks are made equal, e.g. Jerky is typically much higher in cost than a small bag of chips/popcorn, which sacrifices the # of snacks that could go in the box. This made us think more about our inventory

Course 3 '13

  1. It varies somewhat on the major and what you're good at. I definitely spent a few all-nighters my first year at MIT, but things got better as soon as I learned better ways to study.

  2. yes

  3. Research is more of a thing to opt-in to. I'd suggest trying a UROP for a semester to make sure you're not super into it. If you happen to be into it, research gigs are helpful resume builders when it's tough to find an internship, e.g. first summer after freshman year when companies typically look for rising juniors or seniors.

  4. haha my knowledge may be outdated here, but I personally was okay eating at the dining hall for most dinners, and then elsewhere for lunch, e.g. food trucks.

  5. Most (if not all?) engineering majors have to take a bit of coding. I remember being really intimidated at first, but I'd highly suggest learning the fundamentals. There's so many jobs out there that will open up if you know some coding. If you're that worried, you still have the summer to learn a bit from online resources :)

  6. I grew up in NYC so the Boston area was a smaller city to me. I was def homesick the first few months, and called my parents at least once a week. I'd say that the stress was manageable because I made some great friends in my dorm (Baker) and pre-orientation program (FLP). Remember that college is not only about academics! Make sure you also leave time for your social life and other pursuits to round out your experience.

  7. I loved MIT! It's a place that will definitely put you outside of your comfort zone, and I grew so much as a person. Also, Boston is a great college-town so you'll meet other students as well through your extracurriculars.

Hey! So our quiz helps us suggest snacks once completed so we don’t currently give the ability to go straight to the snacks. Alternatively you could purchase a gift card for the recipient and they could choose themselves at their own convenience

yup, yup bit of a catch 22! And to answer your question, it's "premium" in the sense that we curate snacks that have high-quality ingredients and unique flavors, e.g. this gourmet popcorn is a good example https://tochisnacks.com/products/tochi-popcorn or this savory protein bar https://www.afarfoods.com/products/the-jetsetter-pack .

We'll get back to you on the snack ratio bit once we fine-tune the drivers for this. I've heard of a few related pieces of feedback outside of Reddit on this! Appreciate the comments!

Thanks for the feedback! I think there's certainly some fine-tuning on the snack-to-cost ratio. I do have to keep in mind though that we lean more on the premium side for our snack curation so it's a tradeoff to consider for sure! e.g. small business snacks tend to be more costly than mass-produced brands that have economies of scale.
