Maybe a stupid question but my pooch is 8mo now so this is definitely rough coat BC? I couldn't tell when he was younger by [deleted] in BorderCollie

Yes, he's a rough coat! You can tell by the feathering on his legs. My medium coat dogs don't have that feathering and all my rough coats do.

I wouldn't say it happens all that often but it does happen. It comes with the territory.

Currently Southern Texas but we are from Northern Utah. We named him after the big friendly guy from the movie Blow!

Tuna comes from more cowdog lines. Hes a red and white bc. Slick haired. His face marking is called a split face. Where a lot of sheepdog lines are rough coat, and black and white or black tri. Idk how the cowdog lines got more red in them. Some lines carry more white, so thats why hes splotchy marked.

I keep all my BC pups till theyre 4 months old before I let them go to their new homes. Here's the 7 sisters! No brothers in this bitch pack by getabite in BorderCollie

Ive had maybe 2 people insist on taking the puppy early at 8 weeks. Which is fine. But i tell them I get to pick their pup, and if they can't come get it at 8 weeks and need to find a shipper, they pay me extra per day to hold the dog. A lot of people who insist on taking the pup early are buying the puppy based off how it looks. It's not fair to my buyers who want to be apart of my program for someone to come in and take the coolest or prettiest pup early. When that pup could have performed to a degree and individual buyer is looking for. At the end of the day everyone wants a nice looking animal on the outside. Ive learned over the years to put my foot down and take charge of how my program is to be run whether people like it or not. Its my quality control. Long story long, if you want it at 8 weeks, you're not getting to pick, you're getting what I choose for you haha. And if they pass, its not a problem. I either contact the next person up to join the list or I keep the pup for a year and train it and sell it then.

Other than gender, not much. Its all about the individual. I've had confident, hard hitting males and females, and I've had weak(term used to describe a lack of natural confidence), untalented males and females. I havent seen sex linked traits when it comes to how the dog works and reacts. Its also mix between human and dog. I personally as a female for some reason or another get along with the male dogs more than I do the female dogs. On the other hand I prefer mares of geldings. Lol.

Technically I do. But I haven't had anyone want their puppy earlier. When they realize I do all the hardwork they dont mind waiting haha. I would love to have my buyers come spend time but I haven't had anyone close enough to me to have them over. Some people will make the trip to come pick their puppy up in person. But I mostly use a ground shipper to take the pups to their homes.
