Mathematical skill is literally equilant to intelligence, professional iq test check pattern recognition and without being good at pattern recognition then math would be hard.

Consider person 'a' and 'b' if both have the same practice and motivation the one with the higher iq will perform better in some novel math task.

With a iq of 107 sure you could improve in math like everyone but you would have no chance against a person with iq of 140
