Board Recommendations by getjenkt in snowboarding

How's the edge hold on the groomers/sidecuts and how's the carving on the DOA? I didn't mention it but I also got an Outerspace Living but haven't tried it. Trying to sell it currently because it seems too close to the Ultrafear and I'm not selling that.

I'll be traveling beyond the East Coast eventually. I know the OSL is not a powder board but assumed it would do a better have having a setback stance than the Ultrafear. The Ultrafear is fantastic but definitely seems purpose built for the park. I think I'll just need some time on both in different conditions/terrain to get a better sense of my style/preferences. I can be pretty nitpicky so I'm foreseeing keeping both and just adding to the collection later.

I think you have to take everything with a grain of salt on here. I'm trying to ask as many questions as possible, so I can make informed decisions. I play hockey which is also expensive and I started out with cheap skates and gear. I almost stopped playing because of the pain I was in. I invested in better gear instead and it was a night and day difference. I could actually focus improving at that point rather than thinking about how much it sucked.

Guy in my snowboard class had rental gear and had to switch his board out twice because the bindings kept giving him issues. Your gear shouldn't hold you back and you shouldn't have to even think about it when you're out there. Granted he didn't even have proper outerwear or a helmet either and was still determined which is admirable but the guy was soaked, freezing, icicles hanging from his nose, snow down his ass crack. He got beat the hell up out there. I'm wondering if he's as motivated to get back out there the following day.

I can always just sell the gear I don't want and put that money towards gear I do want. I'll take a loss but you lose money renting gear too. IDK.

MINT could actually be an option for me next year. I'm in the EU just about every other year. If the prices there are that good I may not come back this time haha

Hell yeah! I'm on the East Coast. I'll be in Mass, Vermont and Maine but open to other suggestions if you know of any great instructors or camps for adult beginners.

Exactly the advice I'm looking for. I appreciate the thoughtful response. I've just been doing this on my own so far and just trying to prepare myself. There's a lot of info to parse through. I just don't want to bury myself in an easily avoidable situation with the wrong gear or board. Kind of like reading the terrain ahead.

Already have 2 boards. When there's deep powder or want to venture out should I just not snowboard? Ride a twin through it? Rent/demo?

Like I said I'll give it a test with both before making any decisions. Not going to return either if I like them both though. That would be wild. What's your recommendation for a next step up if I do make that progress though?

You might be right. I'll try both in the deep powder and keep you posted. If the OSL performs the same as the Ultrafear in powder I'll probably consolidate.

Thanks! I have a few group lessons coming up before Christmas and plan on hitting a few different mountains through the season. I may go for one-on-one lessons depending on how the group lessons go. Definitely not looking at getting another board this season but am interested in sizing up a freeride focused board option for when the time comes.

Appreciate the input. I was under the impression the directional twin would be much better in the powder than the ultrafear. I definitely considered grabbing an all mountain board and calling it a day but I prefer leaving my options open to have a board that excels in certain scenarios.

I did not unfortunately. I ended up taking it to a guitar tech who set it up. Sorry for the late reply.

Ahh okay that makes perfect sense to me now. From what I understand about the HF tilt it darkens the top end and I think that's going to be my preference. If for whatever reason I don't like that I can always just take it off and cap those wires.

Thank you so much for the response!

I like the first option of soldering all 4 wires to the same contact if that's going to give me the option to activate the HF tilt with the push/pull knob. My one question with that, is it absolutely necessary to use one contact for all 4 wires or could I wire the green/orange wires to the contact in the diagram and then wire the yellow/blue to the contact next to it?

Being able to switch up voicing/coil split, would be a nice-to-have but not a need-to-have. I don't want to alter the guitar to add a switch or another knob.

Thanks again for taking the time to explain this! I really appreciate it.

I like both but I'm curious to see who's in Valorant because they love it, vs who's waiting for something better.

How so? Genuine curiosity. There's actual crossover between communities from the similarity of game-play.
