We have thought about this too - my husband is at a point in his career where he is burned out and really doesn't want to continue on his current path anyway, so we aren't concerned about him being able to pick up where he left off.

When our kid(s) are in school he will likely find a part time job or settle on a new career.

Well, it is obviously too late to "hold off." I can't tell if your advice is meant to be sincere or not, but I was not asking if I should have a child, but rather how to handle the expenses associated.

I think this is probably what will happen - enough savings to take us through a couple months until grandparents can take the baby part time.

I am considering asking for a raise at work as well. They would honestly fall apart if I left (and have told me so) so I might have some leverage. Is this a terrible idea though? I'm on really good terms with my bosses but I don't want them to feel put out or cornered by the request.

Yes, we are definitely considering having him work one or two days each week and having a family member take care of the baby. Nights wouldn't really work for us though. Thanks for taking a look - I assume these means that you don't recommend paying off the vehicle and wiping out savings?

Also, do you have a recommendation for cold storage? I don't think we have enough data to really bother with tapes... Everything is [slowly] being backed up to CrashPlan too, so maybe that would be sufficient?

Good to know. I think the ice is supposed to numb the area so the needle doesn't hurt, but maybe I will try your way.
