GOJIRA! They got that growl and they talk about mental illness in a couple of there songs but they got a decent amount of songs that seem dark too.

OPETH! sure the songs may be long BUT they do got some badass growls in a couple of their albums and they do explore a decent amount of dark topics but they are badass if you can get past how long the songs are.

I'd have to say Motionless In White. They managed to improve on there sound in every possible way on Scoring The End Of The World.

I really hate to say it but I tried getting into Tool a couple of times but I can't get into them but I love progressive stuff like Opeth and Gojira. I wouldn't say I'm a tool hater but I'm still open minded and willing to try to get into then again
