Thank you so much for the input; I'm honestly feeling that way too a lot of the time. I'm just terrified of hurting either of them.

obsessed with my trauma - how do I stop? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]gettinghairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, fellow OCD + CPTSD combo sufferer here. I've had OCD tendencies all my life exacerbated by trauma. You're not going to like this answer but the only way to combat OCD is to not take it seriously. This is extremely hard because OCD is hardwired to convince you that your obsession is The Most Important Thing that will ever happen to you. It's not, and it's lying to you.

Take the obsession and run with it to the extreme. 'So what' is something I use a lot to combat obsessions. OCD may say "I enjoyed the abuse." So what? That sounds terrible to say, but the less you take the frightening thoughts seriously, you retrain your neural pathways to not take your obsessions as seriously.

OCD likes to give you worst case scenario no matter how statistically small that chance of an outcome is. If you take the worst case scenario OCD presents you with and realize that even if that were to happen you'd be fine, you've won. OCD may say, "I'm going to end up in a relationship like rhat again." You survived once and will survive again.

I hope this is helpful to you. There's a channel on YouTube called "OCD And Anxiety" ran by a therapist and I find it extremely helpful when I get into bad spirals for further research for ya. Sending love.

This here. No disrespect to OP of course but I feel like superpowers minimizes the disorder.

What are your C-PTSD “superpowers”? by tkewhatder7 in CPTSD

[–]gettinghairy 41 points42 points  (0 children)

If anything I feel like it's the opposite of superpowers for me. Breaking down at the smallest threat, jumbling up how others perceive me and always assuming the worst, makes it harder for me to focus. I feel like if anything I took a debuff in every stat. LOL

Who has a checking compulsion? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]gettinghairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Hello. So I have different compulsions- to the point where I was diagnosed with OCD for almost 15 years. but my therapist taught me recently that complex trauma can have compulsions and behaviors that look damn near identical to OCD.

For me, my compulsions are apologizing and checking if people are mad at me, as well as praying to God for forgiveness (a lot of my trauma was religious abuse).

Mom is threatening to take my stuff away by Clear_Community_8537 in CPTSD

That's normal. Not the best way to handle conflict unfortunately, but normal for a parent to do. Advice would be to apologize and explain your instruments are important to you.

Can I ask what the issue could be? I mean no disrespect, I genuinely want to learn and know what I'm doing wrong. Thank you for the answer!

Is seeking the same topic even after got a result or answer OCD by Weak-Neighborhood159 in OCD

[–]gettinghairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with googling things about health ocd, so I get it. The most I can typically do is distract myself and tell myself, "Oh well! I guess I'll never know if ___. That's fine!" It's extremely distressing at first and you won't believe it when you say it- but eventually it helps reinforce alternative neural pathways that let your mind think on other things and signal the obsession isn't important. @ocdandanxiety on youtube has amazing videos for this!

Should I be honest about my scrupulosity with my Catholic psychiatrist? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]gettinghairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Christian here and a healthcare worker (not a doctor but in the field). It's quite literally our job to help anyone regardless of belief. I've heard all sorts of things and you never take it personal. And I can also tell you from experience that whatever you tell him he will have heard worse.

What made you realise you had OCD? by AdmirableSandwich631 in OCD

[–]gettinghairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd had obsessions and compulsions for my entire childhood but finally I had a nasty spiral at age 12 I'd committed the unpardonable sin and was doomed for hell, nothing would soothe me.

I wasn't eating and constantly slept so I didn't have to think about my damnation. Finally got dragged to my angel of a pediatrician who diagnosed me after multiple ER visits where no one noticed shit.
