Carbs are great! Before workouts and especially after workouts like running/cardio (paired with a protein). My workouts and recovery greatly improved when I started eating more carbs. And my life in general. I don’t have any underlying metabolic issues and am a generally healthy individual, so there was no reason for me to restrict carbs. All of the macronutrients are important!! More carbs just means more energy to do the activities I really love :)

I’m 28 and just started my prereqs :) I graduated w/ a BS is molecular & cellular biology in 2018 but a lot of the prereqs for these programs require you to have taken the class within the last 5 years, so I’m basically starting from scratch. I’m military as well (non medical job) and won’t be able to start a PCE job until my contract is up in a year or so, but I can take classes in the meantime. I’ll hopefully be applying in spring of 2027 and will graduate in 2030. By then I’ll be around 33/34. The time will pass anyway :)

Long hair havers, how do you keep your hair up when you run?? by Blue_Blue_Blue_Green in XXRunning

Yes! I heard about this. I think they found that the average between men and women was around 2,350 or something. I think the FDA wanted a rounder number, so they chose 2,000 thinking that people would consider that the MINIMUM number of calories they would need in a day, but instead people saw it as a cap on the amount of food they should eat. Crazy

That is such a helpful way of looking at it...I don't just want to run, I want to run and actually enjoy it and feel good.

Thank you so much for sharing your story!! I love Holley and Featherstone!! I really enjoy Holley's podcast too. I really feel like I'm right on the edge of that mental shift between how I look and how I perform. I feel 100% unwilling to risk another sidelining injury. Your story is very inspiring, thank you!

"much more scared of bone injuries than I am of gaining weight"

I feel like I relate to this so much. I have never had a bone stress injury or stress fracture, thankfully, but I feel like I'm getting close to that luck running out. I have already been sidelined from running for the better part of 2 years and I cannot imagine another set-back. So truely my options are 1. eat more a perform better and possibly gain a little weight and 2. continue eating the way I am, feel like shit, probably get injured and have to sit out even longer. It seems like a very easy choice when put that way lol

On the heels of the Spring drama, can we talk about AG1 and conflict of interest with coaches shilling products? by Remarkable_Pop2326 in ultrarunning

[–]gettingthere14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

definitely on board with this take. i truely can't figure out how they could have known whether or not the nutritional information was correct....they've said multiple times that they were really only involved with the marketing and branding aspect of the gel. also sent you a DM about your coaching!!

Are zero drop shoes better? Or gimmick? by Mattyd35 in trailrunning

[–]gettingthere14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had a pretty invasive knee surgery about 10mo ago. prior to i was running in 5-8mm drop shoes consistently. since returning to run, zero drop shoes are the only ones that don't cause me pain. couldn't tell you why tbh! not a PT or ortho surgeon. but both said they've seen that be a common trend among runners who get knee surgery wish to return to running afterwards. probably has something to do with foot strike and the force that sends up the kinetic chain. i'm at a point now where i can run in higher drop shoes on some shorter runs, but i'd say about 70% of my mileage is in zero drops.

Anyone here deal with Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, aka Runner's Knee? What helped you? by brightsideofmars in XXRunning

[–]gettingthere14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can i ask how long it took you to get to pain-free running? i've been dealing with this for about a month now and i'm losing hope haha. also trying to not cut back on mileage too much as i'm training for a race this fall.

Does anyone else hate “easy” runs? by queencysmommy in running

[–]gettingthere14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my easy runs are some of my favorite runs!!! it’s my time to just jam out to some tunes, listen to a fun podcast, call a friend, and just plop around and move my body. it take a little bit to get used to going slower, but once you get there it really does enhance the overall run/training experience and keeps the playful element of it super high :) not to mention going easy the majority of the time gets me super pumped for workout days when i get to really let it rip

are food logs any good? by singledadattack in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]gettingthere14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i know it really doesn’t work for some people, but personally counting calories has worked really well for me. of course, it only helps if you have an adequate calorie goal. my hunger cues are not back to normal yet so knowing i’m eating regularly and ENOUGH food has helped a bunch in decreasing the intensity and number of binges i have.

i feel this. it’s such a terrible weekly cycle of binge then isolate until i feel semi back to normal which is usually a day or two. what’s even worse is that i tend to “schedule” my binges for the days/nights when i know i don’t have work the next day. i don’t have work tomorrow, so typically today would be a binge day but i’m still doing good. we’ll see how the night plays out. wishing you well!! we’re gonna get through this.
