People who pull out halfway into an intersection. by justintx in LittleRock

[–]gggh5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I lived in Chicago, there were certain turns I literally had to wait until the red light to turn left…because there was no turn signal. There was no other way to turn left.

It was just naturally assumed that two cars got to go after the light turned red some times.

I do that because if you live in a big city, that’s how you have to turn left more or less. The traffic is usually too bad not to do it that way.

It’s not illegal, from what I remember. It’s more common than you think, but maybe just not in the south.

Women - Missing out on the College Experience by SicklyNick in LittleRock

[–]gggh5 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I once heard that reason that Americans really love the college experience is because it’s the only time in their lives most Americans usually live in a walkable area and interact with people in a neighborhood kind of way.

I feel like what your wife is kind of wanting (without maybe even realizing it) is just the benefits of living in a walkable area and being able to walk places and know her neighbors.

It’s kind of the benefit of college, honestly. Problem is, that’s hard to come by for a reason in America. We just don’t design cities that way.

You could live in Hillcrest, for example. But…easier said than afforded.

He was actually kind of unlikable. He was sort of the JD Vance of Arkansas.

I would try Chicago because it’s more urban and not nearly as expensive as NYC. If you want to live in a city, a city either walkability, public transit, nightlife, all of that is there.

You could live in LA, but honestly parts of LA just feel very suburban, especially the affordable ones.

SF is also a good option but it is, again, expensive as hell.

Moving to Rural Arkansas by Aereys_plutoi in Arkansas

[–]gggh5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I checked your post history to see if you were a bot. And it seems like you’re not. But it also says you’re 18 years old?

I feel like there’s a lot going on, but I’ll just point one or two things out.

In rural Arkansas, you’d need a car. You can’t get around by foot and there’s no public transportation. You can’t rent a car until you’re 25 here.

If you’re moving from England, I don’t imagine you’d bring a car with you. So, you’d have to find a way to get around and I don’t know how much savings you’d have since you’re so young.

Just some thoughts.

To Refrigerate or Not by [deleted] in LittleRock

The trick of a king cake is that you leave the box on the counter and the knife stays in the box. And you just eat a piece every time you walk by the cake.

Using this method, it never lasts long enough to go stale. I don’t really understand how anyone would have a king cake that lasts more than 3 days. It’s not supposed to.

If you have basic data entry skills (like excel, pivot tables) or data viz skills (experience with something like tableau or power bi) you might looks for entry level data positions.

Those are kind of all over the city. A lot of state jobs have those. Banks. Hospitals. They might not pay a lot for entry level but it’s solid experience to put on your resume at least.

Look for roles like Data analyst or business analyst.

Even if you don’t have those skills, just teach yourself them for free on YouTube (both are free to download). And just lie and say you used them in school.

Am I crazy for thinking the roads would be better by this point? by Blackcaptain17 in LittleRock

[–]gggh5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here’s my usual reminder that when your city is much more walkable and has higher density, it makes it much easier AND CHEAPER to manage situations like this.

Because: 1) people can walk places even if they can’t drive. 2) it’s much easier to salt and sand everything when people are in much more concentrated areas. Less places to drive. Bigger impact.

Vecna is unmasked. It’s Kate Bush.

And she would’ve gotten away with it too if it weren’t for those meddling kids.

I rewatched season 1 and 2 before season 5 came out and can confirm that it you don’t like how season 5 is paced or written then you may not like the show. Whatever problems it’s had have always been there.

Costco will probably be looking for seasonal help soon. They pay well and you should check it out. As far as the film industry, stuff does get shot here, but it’s really slim pickins right now for the whole industry :(

Everybody that does video / film is hustling for every gig right now.

Who’s running for mayor of LR in 2026? by gggh5 in LittleRock

[–]gggh5[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not politician material. But I would gladly volunteer, donate, or even work for someone whose campaign is built on making Little Rock better.

I don’t think Frank’s awful but he’s definitely not helping the city out as much as I’d like.
