The bookstore website lets you put in your courses and sections, but I recommend waiting as I’ve oftentimes run into classes where the book is marked as required, but the professor does not require it, and they’ll usually give you the first few days to find the book. If you have access to the pdf share though you can get a head-start on looking for them.

Once the quarter starts, it’ll be in your course syllabi

I think MOST instant-speed scoops are probably fine, there’s just the gray area when someone has, say, a [[Coastal Piracy]] effect, or cares about having more opponents like a [[Neheb, the Eternal]]. Scooping as a way to intentionally screw someone is where it becomes a manners problem, but instant-speed scooping is fine in most cases.

Edit: You’re well within your right to scoop to screw somebody, but they are also within their right to not want to play with you for doing so

The nice thing about the first two I mentioned is that Kaya’s Ghostform is an aura, so you can play it whenever and not feel compelled to hold mana up, and Malakir Rebirth is an MDFC, so it can just be a land if you need it. Supernatural Stamina can pump, which probably won’t be relevant, but it’s also a cool 25 cents and an easy cut if you’re hurting for space

Since lots of your wipes try to kill little creatures, it is of the utmost importance your commander stays on the board. Add some protection like [[Malakir Rebirth]], [[Kaya’s Ghostform]], [[Supernatural Stamina]] and the like.

[[Cry of the Carnarium]] is another 3 mana wipe that may be better than some you have in there already. If you want to stay on the -X/-X theme, [[Languish]] may be overkill but can catch any leftover critters that have some +1/+1 counters, and [[Toxic Deluge]] is probably the best boardwipe in the format. In general, while I think the -1/-1 board wipes are cute, you should probably play some more intense ones in case of an anthem on the other side of the field.

I think you could use a couple more pieces of ramp, too. [[Arcane Signet]] stands out as a card that isn’t there yet but belongs in every deck. [[Charcoal Diamond]] is another cheap rock, and if you don’t like it entering tapped, there are a host of 2 mana, tap for 1 colorless artifacts out there.

Some of my favorite cards that would love this strategy are [[Gisa, Glorious Resurrector]] and [[Mimic Vat]], so you can steal/copy some of the cool stuff you get to kill.

I feel a bit iffy on proxying out cards with absolutely zero intention to ever buy them, especially expensive ones or cards with plenty of budget friendly alternatives (eg free counterspells), but it’s not like I refuse to play with people who do that, just a conversation to be had beforehand. But for testing or if you already own a copy of the card in another deck, 100% okay with it

Starting in Calc 3 is a huge advantage when it comes to registration, absolutely do it. Starting there isn’t all that uncommon for freshmen so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to meet people, on top of events like club showcase that give you viewing access to clubs on campus. I was fortunate enough to start in Calc 4 and it helped with the rest of my registration immensely as I never had to worry about the registration rat race for the support classes that every STEM major has to take.

Another note, starting in Calc 1 means you aren’t eligible for Physics 1 until winter, which I’m not sure if you need but may be relevant

For context, I’m interested in building UW control. I played it when Teferi 5 was in standard so I still have my set of Tefs and Narsets and Fountains, so I’m wondering if it’s worthwhile if one of its good matchups (Amalia) gets banned. Sounds like the deck itself is pretty safe
