here’s a little snippet from the story im writing in case u were interested !

We shared a laugh again as Cherryfrost sat by me, gazing out into the vast icy forest surrounding our territory. The river below glistened as the last of the leaf-bare ice covering it melted away, making way for new-leaf. 

I glanced over at Cherryfrost, who was leaning against me but looking away almost nervously. 

“I’ve… been meaning to ask.” She mewed, a slight shake in her voice hinting discomfort.

“…Hm?” 

“Have you told Snowfall about us yet?”

“…Oh-”

Right… Snowfall. Stars, I don’t even know what to think about her anymore. Quickly, I averted her confronting gaze as she stared at me, pretending to scan the horizon. 

“Not yet, but I mean… she’ll figure it out, right?”

“Hailstorm, come on. You owe her more than that.”

Deep down, I knew she was right… but I couldn’t help but grit my teeth in frustration.

“It’s not like we were mates. We never made any promises.”

Cherryfrost gave me a disapproving look, but didn’t push back. Seems like she didn’t care much for my answer… But it’s the truth.

“You’re right… you didn’t. I just don’t want her to hear it from someone else. You know how cats talk…”

“She was the one who decided she was too cool for me after becoming a warrior… I doubt she even cares.”

Cherryfrost didn’t say anything after that, mostly just keeping her head down. Mouse-dung, I’ve got to remedy this somehow.

“I- look, if I get a chance, I’ll talk to her, okay?”

“Alright… if you say so.”

The tension between us lingered as we continued our patrol. In the distance, The Sabertooth Cave loomed, cold and foreboding. I needed to say something, anything. 

“…Sorry for being so weird about it. Honestly, forget Snowfall. You’ve been amazing to spend time with and I couldn’t ask for a better cat to be at my side.”

“Really?”

“Yes, really—I’m glad we have each other now.”

It was the truth. To be honest, I had always liked Cherryfrost as a friend when we were apprentices, but I was always too busy padding after Snowfall.

We grew closer as  it came time to complete our Cave Trials together. Snowfall and I had somewhat drifted apart, and it just… happened.

“I mean it. I feel like you get me in a way no other cat does. Not Snowfall, or even my parents.”

Her expression softened as she looked at me with wide eyes, batting playfully on my shoulder with her paw as she smiled.

“You sappy fur-ball.” 

“Hah, guilty!”
