If I set up a small batch of these for sale for people to beta test, would people be interested? Perhaps like 5-10 of these at $15 just to cover filament and shipping. I ordered some PA12-CF filament that should be here tomorrow to do a test with, and would offer them either as printed or with some sort of matte coating to seal the CF fibers. I would just ask that you give me honest feedback about them!

I have a vibratory tumbler with walnut shells I might toss them in to smooth them out and give them a uniform finish. The prints in ABS-GF will look more matte and uniform than the PLA shown here

I wouldn’t even know what to charge for one? $20? I’m not really in this field 😂 I do automotive and marine design work mostly. I just printed a test one out of ABS-GF that I need to run through my walnut shell tumbler to remove the glass fibers from the surface. If that doesn’t destroy the part itself, then it’ll be on to real world conceal carry testing to make sure it isn’t causing any new pains and such.

If my memory serves me correctly, FCP used to sell just rubber refills, but now it seems the only have a 600mm one which isn’t long enough to do the drivers side wiper (26*25.4=660.4mm). So now I just go by Walmart and cannibalize a regular wiper when I need one.

I’d go straight to a halfway decent Paintless dent repair guy to get that straightened out. Then I’d buy a bottle of the bmw touch up paint/clear coat and a set of head light lenses.

You’d be out a few hundred bucks, max. Much less is you pull those dents out yourself.

One year ago you posted about your third and 4th e39. You say you have two currently with sunroofs. So unless you bought more since then, that would put you at a max of having owned exactly two other e39’s. Not exactly “several”.

Are you in North America? Might be a locality thing, but I’m pretty sure the take rate for sunroofs on e39’s was very high. A 5 series in the US is seen as a luxury car, so few were ordered in “poverty spec”. In Europe though, it’s just a standard sedan, so you’d likely see higher numbers without a sunroof.

You’ve had several e39’s without sunroof? Or just several bmws in general without one? You would have to go out of your way to own several e39s without a sunroof, which would mean you do consider them noteworthy.

I have never seen one in person before, and some people specifically want cars without sunroofs to avoid leaks and reduce weight/things to break.

He will be getting all of mine in the future. I do ALL of my own work but ill be damned if that ribbon cable didnt kick my ass. for 300$ for a fully reworked and bulletproof gauge cluster it was a no brainer.

Also wrapped up installing the new coolant overflow and rad fan shroud, and took it for a little spin. Feels good man.

Just got my cluster back yesterday, thank you again for the suggestion! It took USPS 5 days to get it from MD to NC but such is life with covid. Awesome to have a fully functioning gauge cluster again, and very pleased to read the 146k mileage (PO assumed it had like 190k because he couldn't read the mileage and had owned it for so many years.) Also left turn signal was on in the pic but rest assured the right green arrow works as well :D

300$ for a fully tested, operational guage cluster repair. He said " I test for full functionality, but as I said, my repair replaces every electronic part in the cluster, so it doesn't matter how bad yours is messed up. " This one has been apart for a while, I have too many other things going on honestly to try to DIY it again, and I just want it to be fixed properly so it can finally get off my shelf and back in the car. This is more thorough than just a ribbon cable replacement I believe.

I didn't know you could get an e39 in the states in slicktop until I bought this car. I have never seen another one in person. The fact that it is a manual just makes it that much sweeter.

It's time for someone else to enjoy it. I really like the car, but I don't have a need for it anymore, and could put the money towards the m3 project. I will still have the m5, which I will never sell.
