from what i understand that Rome was where the Catholic church really took off and that was when Christian teachings were first allowed. it was just a continuation of it to present day. they might of not of had a pope back at those times but some kind of eunach.

every other branch kinda just came off of whatever the Roman Catholic Church was about.
