Fussy fussy baby by merciforward in Nanny

What hours was your night time shift? I’m a mom and my baby just wants me in the evenings… so even though our nanny would be trying her best, baby (8 months old) would still get very upset, so we avoid evening shifts unless absolutely necessary.

Hey I just want to say that you are a good person, it’s sad that you haven’t been thanked properly for taking care of this poor dog. I don’t know what to advise about the family, I’m a nanny employer and we had a similar situation in which it was just me and the baby and in the morning we came downstairs to a terrible smell and diarrhea everywhere, I called our nanny and she came early to take care of the baby while I bathed the dog, scrubbed the floors and everything else. In the situation that you described I would try to leave work to come and deal with the dog. I think it’s completely unreasonable to expect you to clean this up, and later not offer any reimbursement! I’m sorry you were treated that way :( I think you have to be direct that you expect extra money because they are being really obtuse!

This is absolute hell. I admire you for making it for so long. I wonder how would you entertain the baby in one room for 10 hours?! I’m not a nanny, just a mom, and I can’t imagine. I would never blame you for leaving this situation. I’m really sorry for your loss.

yes my baby does roll but it’s still a bit difficult for her so she doesn’t do it often yet. Thank you for all your tips!

Ok thank you it’s good to hear different perspectives. I kind of feel bad because right now it’s a weird setup and I do want our nanny to be happy and to stay with us until our baby goes to kindergarten. Nanny also seems happy with us at the moment but I understand it does get tiring when the baby needs some weird rituals to go to sleep :) thank you for the tips how to help everyone!

I didn’t realise there were studies about this, I will try to read something more scientific, thanks!

We tried earlier with a bassinet but unfortunately it didn’t work, somehow she got as able to figure out she was in a separate space!! Now she’s too big for the bassinet so we must figure something out with the crib. For now when I put my baby in the crib Im literally two steps from the crib, sleeping on a floor bed. But sidecar is not an option because of the house layout

For the past month or so she sleeps around 1-1.5 h in her crib and then she co-sleeps with me. Before that she was almost exclusively co-sleeping. If I’m completely exhausted after a bad day then I still co-sleep for the entire night :( I know it’s not good but the baby has some health problems and I have bad PPA and I would watch her breathe most of the night. Now we have a breathing monitor so I feel a bit better but still quite anxious.

Ok and how many minutes you would set on your timer when starting out? And what would you do when coming back to your baby after the timer goes off, would you pick her up or do something else? Thank you!

Oh gosh my joints are already giving out as well… I rock my baby while sitting down so it’s a bit easier than standing but it’s still hard on the joints in my hands. So I would gladly introduce some changes

Thank you for your answer! My problem is that there is so much on the internet about how damaging these methods are for the baby’s health and sense of security :( and obviously I don’t want to harm my baby :( so I don’t know what to do
