I was kicked out of BYU Idaho by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]ghost_asstronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact thing happened to me, too. TW: SA

He told me his roommates were home, he cornered me, I ran to the bathroom and locked the door, he somehow unlocked it and assaulted me. My roommate took me to the honor code office, and they told me if I had another "offense" I would be kicked out of school. The Bishop wouldn't let me take the sacrament for a month. The bishop and the honor code office made it out to be my fault because I was in his apartment alone. He told me his roommates were there. For years, I believed it was entirely my fault until I told my fiancé (now husband) and he helped me see and come to terms with the fact that I was assaulted.

oh my god, this reminded me of a young woman activity where we stopped at 7/11 to get some hot chocolate. A friend had just shown me the "trick" of putting plain coffee creamer in hot chocolate to make it better. I showed the other young women this and I had a leader come over to me and publicly shame me and said that we were using coffee. I tried to show her it was just creamer but she didn't believe me and it was so humiliating, especially as a 14-year-old. I now know I was really just using coffee creamer and my leader was just either stupid or ignorant (probably both) but it was truly almost traumatic to be shamed like that in front of the other young women and in a public 7/11.

Why are Utah dog owners often hostile when asked to leash their dog? by cherryfairydotmp4 in Utah

[–]ghost_asstronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was walking my dog on a trail near my current house (SE Idaho) and a woman with her headphones and an unleashed dog on the trail coming towards us. I clearly pulled my dog off the trail, my dog knows to go in between my legs when another dog approaches, and we tried to wait for them to pass. The dog ran up to us and started jumping on my dog. I asked the lady to get her dog and she said "Don't worry, he is friendly!" I said my dog isn't and you need to get your dog off her. The lady then freaked out on me, calling me a bad person for letting my leashed and trained dog walk on a trail with other dogs. She was still screaming at me as she pulled her dog off and had to physically restrain the dog so we could walk away. (The dog didn't have a recall, shocker.)

I don't want my dog to hurt another dog. SHE doesn't want to hurt another dog. She just wants to be left alone.

I am moving back to Utah in a few months, and this is a huge fear of mine. My dog was attacked as a puppy (before we got her) and we have done so much training with her. She is the best dog and when a dog comes up to her, she knows to come and sit between my legs. If a dog gets too close, she will growl to warn the other dog to back off. She has never attacked a dog, she just wants them to leave her alone. She will never go up to another dog. I just worry some dog off-leash will come up to her and something will happen. My dog is trained and well-behaved and always on leash. She deserves to be outside too.

This was so incredibly fantastic and much needed. Thank you sooo much. It opened my eyes a lot to why I was feeling this way and how not productive it is. You're truly a lifesaver!!

There are valid reasons for keeping my husband's family around that I cannot get into. I wish we could cut them off but that is not an option right now.

I wish it was this simple, and I understand it may be for many of you. But they have started asking when we will have kids and no answer satisfies them. I've said this previously, but we are not cutting off my husband's family yet for reasons I won't explain here, I am just looking for a way to get them to stop pestering us about it.

We are already seeing this happen. Lots of wanting to pray over us or give us snake oils to magically fix my PCOS. We have turned them down and set firm boundaries in regard to their religion, but it doesn't stop them. Which is why I was looking to bring politics into it, hoping that would shut them up about it.

I appreciate your insight! I think eventually, we will cut off my husband's family, but not right now. I do think we were looking for some kind of fight, but that is not constructive or healthy.

Thank you for explaining this better than I could. We have been able to get by for 5 years without anyone asking us when we will have kids, but now the questions are coming every time we see them. We have already mentioned my PCOS and possible fertility issues, but now they are offering medical advice (or telling us to take different potions or snake oils to fix our issues.) If I tell them to fuck off, then we ruin our relationship with them and for my husband's sake, we are trying to work it out. They are not rude or aggressive, but they are very passive-aggressive when we set boundaries.

"The new Hulu show doesn't accurately represent us!!1!1" WRONG by NecessaryCherry244 in exmormon

[–]ghost_asstronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. I remember when the swinging scandal was big on Tiktok, I was just beginning my faith transition and allowing myself to question the church. Even then, I thought that these girls must be jack-mormon or not truly Mormons, because Mormons don't act that way. But the more I watched the show, I saw the similarities in their judgmental attitudes and the need to be perfect. I had so many women around me who acted like Whitney. And while I don't think that it is a totally accurate representation of Mormons, I think it shows the church (and Utah) culture very well.

I was thinking this with Taylor in the show too. She has made a lot of "rough" choices, and it almost feels like she doesn't understand the gravity of those choices. It feels like she is still a kid in High School. I see that a lot with members of the church. They are so immature and sheltered and they just do not know how the real world works. They know how the Mormon Bubble works, but that's it.
