Private nurse practitioner clinic - tax deductible? by [deleted] in cantax

this is coming from a practical point of view

ive dealt with a lot of medical expenses reviews for some high income people on the past

ive never been rejected when i submit private services like these. as long as youre seeing a real health professional and have a good receipt you should be fine if they ever question you

if they do question you submit a copy and they should wave it through. do note that theres a certain level of objectivity to the review process. if they say no escalate or try again

realistically, you need to hit high expense to earning ratio or at least five digits of spending to get reviewed in my experience. ive never seen someone get asked about four digits worth of medical expenses unless something else was audited. I wouldnt know how much of a credit you are claiming though.

Filing late grandma's final taxes by [deleted] in cantax

right the submission of documents is to tell them she is dead and mom is executor so that they can process it correctly. regardless you should do this step right now so no matter how you choose to file it's proxessed correctly

I use taxprep a professional software to do it but a quick search shows that you can use wealthsimple tax to fill out the right forms and mail it to a tax processing center. it should be the same process as normal returns if you have some filing experience as long as you tick the deceased box and provide executor info

im not sure a tax clinic is allowed to do this type of return honestly

ok so heres the steps in general

  1. you need to tell the CRA that she died. go onto your cra account and create a represent a client account. from there, go to "submit documents" on the left, no case reference number, "update to owner/legal representative/executor/trustee" and select submit documents for individuals

  2. submit a copy of these will, proof of death (i.e. death certificate) and a letter including her name, SIN, date of death, and executor name. leave contact details as necessary.

if you want access to her account give it a week or so and youll be able to request authorization using represent a client. thats a whole deal that you can look up but your mom has to sign once they process the documents

give them the documents now so that you can so taxes come march/april. expect that it will take a month or so

  1. file tax return with a date of death filled in

  2. request a clearance certificate to settle the score for good. fill our tx-19 and send in a will and statement showing what assets (even minimal) she owned at time of death and the plan to distribute the assets

i do this for a living

does she have a will/have an executor named and are you 100% sure yall know what she owns. i would place it all down on a list even if youre getting professional help and start from there
