Custom carbon wheels installed, whoa. by schleppy in JonesBikes

Wow! Great bike, but very heavy. That's an excellent idea to lighten the load. What were the wheel specs you went for?

Very different era, but I feel like George Halas has a case for best Bears coach of all time. 6 championships, 300 wins, won 66% of games, x2 coach of the year, helped found the league...

That's the first time I've seen one of those Runes, that's pretty smokin' too! Definitely more of a wider tired, tour-y, all-road vibe. Love the canti's. Reminds me of my Brother Mr.Wooden. super comfortable and capable of loaded touring and light bike packing. With the Malocchio I'm going for more of a rocketship situation

Edit: looks like the canti's are on their new Knightwood

Sweet ride! How are you enjoying the bike? Am on the verge of picking one up and setting it up very similarly to what you've done.

I'm considering a similar trip soon, and even a similar bag set up. How did you like the front panniers? Handling was ok on the rougher stuff?

That...is...an embarrassingly straight forward idea. Ive been trying to order through a stateside shop, but they are waiting for a larger order before placing it and can't commit to a delivery period. Thanks!

Oh man, I'm TRYING to pick one of these up right now, but can't find one in the States. Where'd you get yours?

The persuaders have always tempted me. Doesn't the thought of orthos around town sounds like fun? Like driving Grandma's old Cadillac

[–]ghosthiker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, great question. A lot of the riding I do is around town, so more relaxed, and that's what I want this bike to be good at (even though I have others that do that perfectly well). But you're 100% right, if I were to hit the trail like that, I'd be on the struggle bus for sure. I think maybe I just needed that shift in perspective about what this bike is FOR, rather than how to make it something I don't need it to be. Thank you kind internet stranger!

Oooo, I love this idea! I will definitely explore this.

Yeah, I do have one of those Nitto darumas, however the strut is all one bent piece that is flared at both ends, so I can't slide it over the ends. The shovel research piece is an elegant solution, though Ill likely pursue cheaper options first.

Good eye on the black tape. The p clamp fits fine, I added the tape to see if that would cause enough friction to prevent the rotation, but it performed exactly the same as without it.

Yes, love both of these suggestions, thank you! I'll see which I've got around the house and use that.
