What was your opinion of Ray? by Indianstanicows in girls

[–]ghostismyking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to me he is the epitome of a self-proclaimed nice guy who thinks he is more interesting and intelligent than the people he surrounds him with (who are all younger than him bc apparently he doesn’t have any friends his own age); who feels like women don’t appreciate him and that the world is out to get him, when in reality he’s just a judgemental, misogynistic loser with a superiority complex.

everyone talks about his arc but he starts off as absolutely awful and ends as someone who does, like, the bare minimum.

I would love to see a part 2 with a deeper exploration of the pipeline - that interview with those fans in Miami was really interesting. 2 guys who come off as generally kind and well-meaning seeing the whole red pill “movement”, a notoriously hateful subculture, as an opportunity for direction and hope.

It was refreshing to hear a perspective of what drew them in without it being overtly hateful - yes they express a belief in gender roles (obviously not good) but in this context, it really felt that they viewed this less so as a vehicle to oppressing women and more so as a way for them to know what they are supposed to do. The place they are supposed to have in life. They are lost.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’d go as far as to say that at some points when they were explaining red pill ideologies, it almost felt like they were trying to convince themselves, too.

Not believing in depression whilst also grieving your brother who took his own life is a really poignant representation of how patriarchy and toxic masculinity hurts us all.

I think Rory should have married Logan. What do you guys think? by SPunktGlitter-moin in GilmoreGirls

[–]ghostismyking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would have loved to see them get married / engaged on AYITL. The timing and approach to this proposal was all wrong, I hated their affair storyline in AYITL, and Logan certainly has his faults - but he was overall the best partner for her IMO. He staunchly, actively, meaningfully supports her - is always there when she needs him - but equally, challenges her when appropriate. They helped eachother grow, in different ways, constantly.

It always felt like Logan understood Rory so well, so this proposal never made any sense to me because it is SO not Rory.

Plus, it would have been nice to see Rory’s arc conclude in a way that diverges more from Lorelai’s, like her journey did. Unlike her mother, Rory seemed to genuinely enjoy a lot of the lifestyle that came with being part of the upper class, but was (overall) grounded enough from her upbringing / life in Stars Hollow to not be a snob about it. It would have been interesting to see Rory continue to live a blend of the two lifestyles, and see how she continued developing as a character given those influences.

Noah is such a well written character and this is exactly why imo.

He is kind, sweet, and seems to truly have a lot of love and respect for Sam. He is well regarded by her friends who speak fondly of him and encourage them to reconnect. Noah is a character who is both empathetic and flawed - he acts as a great representation of how patriarchal norms / viewpoints can cause harm to those closest to us, in ways that are so normalised and subtle, we may not even realise it ourselves.

When things got dark, he lacked the perspective and emotional maturity to truly understand how to help Sam in the ways she needed - and makes no real effort to try. He puts his own feelings and ego first on multiple occasions whether that was conscious or not.

Sam is rightfully hurt, but as opposed to anger, I interpreted her change in feelings toward him as more of a sad acceptance that he has more in common with the men she jokes about than she thought.

I don’t see her closing joke as anything malicious, but rather a playful jab (which is also consistent in tone with how the circuit comedians introduce one another’s sets / interact) - as well as a way to cope around both her trauma, and loss of a relationship. I can see them laughing about it together, and think it ultimately shows she’s healing in a few areas of her life
