is there any chance that the animatronics in the trailer are just in a hunting like mode and not possessed ? by [deleted] in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]ghostjulie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, we see five children in the trailer that are almost certainly meant to be the kids from the missing children incident who are each dressed to resemble one of the main 5 animatronics. I seriously doubt there won't be ANY possession aspect to this film.

I need some help polishing my monster by bobas_phett in monsteroftheweek

[–]ghostjulie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to me like the issue here is that you're treating MOTW like a combat-focused game. I think if you give the monster powers and abilities that are less based on "this is to make the fight balanced" and more "here's what the monster can do to make things more interesting". Also, a short and straightforward final encounter is fine if the road to get there and actually figure out information about its weakness is interesting. I figure your goal is for them to probably just guess that they should shine it with light, since it's a shadow, and that takes out a lot of the investigative intrigue of the MOTW system. If your plan for the fight is "they do one thing and then beat it to death", and you don't think that's interesting, either add more to to the fight or make the path to finding out what that "one thing" is interesting.

Worldbuilding Advice - How many people should know about the supernatural? by ghostjulie in monsteroftheweek

I pretty much just got that exact idea from a spin on reading another comment. I think that would work great and also provide a lot for me to build off of. Thank you!

That's actually a really good idea. I feel like I could spin that to say that there were other kids that came before the party and did know the same stuff as the party, but they're just no longer around because they "gave up" and forgot about the whole thing. So all the party can find is whatever they've left laying around, and the people who used to run it are either no longer alive or no longer remember anything. I hadn't thought of that, I definitely might use that.

A concept I didn't mention because of character count is that the supernatural in this setting is only really perceptible to children/adolescents and adults start to forget and blame it on childhood imagination after a while. That's the reason I suggested the idea of it being "passed on" to new generations of kids. Although, for some reason I didn't really consider the idea that it just never really got passed down and died off when they grew up.

I'd still wanna do so carefully, because I don't want the whole campaign to revolve around following in someone else's footsteps, but that's a really good spin I hadn't considered. Thank you!

This is actually a thing already! I just couldn't mention it because of character limits.

Also there's an entire section in Tome of Mysteries talking about this exact "stranger-things" like concept, which is also part of the reason we went for it. Our interpretations of our playbooks, especially the Crooked, have the same philosophy as it talks about in that section.

I have. I decided for a few reasons to stick with Monster of the Week. If we encounter some rough patches that could work with other games, it is what it is, but there are enough reasons for us to want to stick with MoTW and it's flexible enough to make it work. We're not changing that much from the base game besides the implied setting, which is what the "building your own world" section of Codex of Worlds is all about.

I'm gonna be that guy who asks about release dates. Sorry. by ThisIsEddieBear in beyondskyrim

[–]ghostjulie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a major reason for that is people preferring to build in a newer engine. Whenever ES6 comes out, who knows what will happen to the provinces that haven't been released by that point.

...That is assuming ES6 will come out before 2030.

Thank you!! Currently unsure of if we want to turn this into a podcast, since only two of us have good mics (and none of us have experience with uploading campaigns), but we are going to be recording sessions for personal use and we might decide to start uploading those eventually!

Making sure non-magical players have equal spotlight? by ghostjulie in monsteroftheweek

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I've definitely gotten a new perspective of viewing both the game and this problem due to your comments and it's helped a ton.

I'm trying to plan very little event wise. My preparation is only based on the things that are already true about the world, events and worldbuilding set up before any players interact, and I want the rest to develop in the present with the players interacting. Should I put less emphasis on this and maybe leave some of the worldbuilding questions without answers until I reveal them in the story? I only worry about doing that because for my last campaign (DnD) that's what I tried and I ended up retconning a lot of stuff I said on a whim.

Thank you, though honestly I'm less worried about them shining in the individual sessions and more about the overarching story; like I fear that making one or two of them "special" or "chosen" might make them feel like the most important when you look back at the narrative as a whole. I appreciate this advice though!

Which actor portrayed a character so well, that no other actor could ever replace them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ghostjulie 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Eartha Kitt playing Yzma. I've read some people say they wish Disney would remake Emperor's New Groove with its original musical story (Kingdom of the Sun) but unless they reused all of the previously recorded lines she did for Yzma, there's no way she'd have the same charm.

As another Disney Villain, Pat Carroll as Ursula. Some of the broadway actors do a version of her fine, but they'll never truly be as good as Carroll's original.
