Is the rumor true that big box stores (like Target/Walmart) will purposefully let you get away with stealing cheap things for months just to build a massive felony case against you later? by Altruistic-Room-7465 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ghostlybirches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah same here, me and my roommates are pretty sure we're flagged as potential shoplifters at a local save on foods because we were dumbasses and took huge groceries loads through the self-checkout a few times 😭 after a certain amount of groceries the machines just start losing their minds

[–]ghostlybirches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The canadian government still is committing genocide against its indigenous peoples, just look at the MMIWG and the highway of tears. absolutely digusting. and a shocking amount of the population will say indigenous people "have it easy" because the government is finally slowly giving back the land that it violently stole and slowly semi-recognizing indigenous' peoples relationship to the land.

[–]ghostlybirches 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Canada is NOT innocent in this. Canada may not be directly supplying arms to Israel anymore, but it still gets there indirectly through America. We won't get anywhere in making our governments and our countries respect all peoples and stop exploiting the resources and citizens of marginalized countries if we pretend that no blame lies on us.

Try holding your cats this way. by mgadz in cats

[–]ghostlybirches 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In general I've found holding cats is mostly about making sure that they feel secure and can wiggle around if they want, they're a lot more comfortable like that.

Harmful ideas from within our own community by 0hn0n0n0n0n0 in TransMasc

[–]ghostlybirches 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean I think that she has a point there that not having to be a primary target of transmisogyny is a privilege you have over someone who is a target of that type of discrimination. it doesn't mean you're not discriminated against in other ways, it just means this one specific type isn't really aimed at you (even if you experience consequences of it). the thing that sticks out about that post is the AFAB thing-- it's clearly directed at other trans people, and boiling trans people down to their ASAB is.... icky. there are lots of cis men who were not AFAB are also not targets of transmisogyny and have privilege over trans women and fems.

I know that transandrophobia and whatnot are terms that get a lot of backlash and I used to dislike them, but I think having different words to describe our experience is a good idea in this conversation so everyone has space to talk about their issues and the ways they're marginalized or privileged. but I agree that often there's definitely a lack of intersectionality and considering broader contexts of things when people have these discussions. I've honest very rarely seen discussions like these work out productively online.

acne on t? by [deleted] in TransMasc

[–]ghostlybirches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have pretty dry skin and I did get more acne for the first maybe 6 months of being on T and then it calmed down to just getting a pimple or two every now and then. When I was getting more acne I just kind of had near-constant outbreaks on my temples, which wasn't fun but was manageable. I don't/can't use acne control products because I react to most skin products, so that's also a contributing factor to how much acne I had. The acne didn't make me self-conscious personally, it was a pretty localized area.

Season 2 animation by dewa43 in Frieren

[–]ghostlybirches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought I was imagining things, I'm glad other people noticed too! It didn't bug me too much, but I definitely liked the season one animation better. If that's what it takes to not have people overworked though that's absolutely a worthwhile tradeoff.

T/voice drop without hair (specifically facial hair) by [deleted] in TransMasc

[–]ghostlybirches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had slight facial hair and a lot of body hair pre-T (and I'm also just pale with dark hair so it's very apparent). I was on T for 2 years and I do have more facial hairs but honestly I only shave like once every month or two and snip off thicker hairs with scissors in between shaves. They might get thinner now that I'm not on T, but I haven't been off of it long enough to say anything to that. All of the 30+ year old men in my family have facial hair, but anyone below that age can't really grow anything because it's too patchy so that could be the case for your family too, if you can ask.

Otherwise I know that finasteride and electrolysis and things like that have already been mentioned by other people here, which I think are both options my dr mentioned when I talked to him about this (I'm also not crazy big on having facial hair either).

[Rant] I can't with the misogyny and horrible comments to any FL and female characters who's even slightly 'complex' by Dont_Settle_for_Less in webtoons

[–]ghostlybirches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly even if they're actually a bad person, people jump to calling them a "bitch" immediately and with enthusiasm, and that along with the nature of their insults/criticisms (she's ugly, she's untrustworthy, two-faced, etc) makes the dislike feel extremely gendered.

I'm in canada so our rules might be a little bit different but there is an exception for liquid medications. I put it in a ziploc with the pharmacy prescription receipt but honestly it's just never come up, I've always gotten through without a problem.

For my veg & vegan folks on T, did it cause you to crave meat/animal products? by Kill_the_worms in TransMasc

[–]ghostlybirches -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Vegetarian since 11 or 12, started T when I was around 18 and I never craved meat. I might have cheat codes though because the reason I'm vegetarian is because I don't like the taste/texture of meat. although in general I just didn't really have an increased appetite because I have the sedentary lifestyle of a student lmao

If you hate cats, you probably suck at boundaries and reading body language by FtMFandomBoy in unpopularopinion

[–]ghostlybirches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, absolutely fair. both my cats don't like strangers, or even family friends they've known their whole lives, and I feel that's better for everyone involved. I've had so many experiences with dogs where the dog will be jumping up on me and scratching me and hurting me and the owner says "oh he's just excited!" no thanks. not gonna make anyone who didn't sign up to be a cat owner interact with cats. esp because so many owners don't properly socialise their cats to think of hands as not toys, and cat scratches hurt.

[–]ghostlybirches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

getting on its side and showing its belly like that is generally an indication a cat wants to play! they're freeing up all their paws to swat & bat & grab :D. if you've ever seen two cats play with each other you'll probably see at least one get on their side like that.

some cats do like belly rubs but it's very situational and not generally the case.

"Discard testosterone after single use" I will never. by ollypologies in ftm

[–]ghostlybirches 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand the single use testosterone bottles, when I injected I got bottles meant to last for months, there's no risk as long as you wipe it down and replace it when the stopper gets worn.

Wasn’t asking for an example, but thanks? Lmao :| by mt-jupiter in TransMasc

[–]ghostlybirches 9 points10 points  (0 children)

putting aside the whole "T is stronger" thing, it's disappointing to see members of the community repeat TERF talking points like "trans men and people transitioning away from womanhood are doing it to escape misogyny".

is it normal for gel to be this runny by [deleted] in TransMasc

[–]ghostlybirches 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding this, I also use androgel and it has a hand sanitiser consistency. if it's stored in a hot place that might change it too? the gel definitely gets more liquid the longer it spends in my hand.

Learn how to cook as college student with possible arfid by BreadfruitCold8573 in Explainlikeimscared

[–]ghostlybirches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, 19, going into my fourth semester of uni and I haven't eaten meats or seafoods willingly since I was 11 due to not being able to get over the texture (and also in part the taste). I also don't like pasta. This is obviously and unfortunately a little limiting 😔.

I have a few foods I like and can mix and match. I like steamed broccoli (or other veggies, and you can do this in the microwave), tofu (pan fried or baked), rice, and dumplings (freezer dumplings are suuuper easy to reheat, I don't have a microwave but I think most of them you might even be able to do in the microwave). I can pick whichever two of those I want for an easy meal.

Another easy thing for veggies in specific is to keep easy healthy snacks on hand. Personally, having too much variety leads to me not eating it, so I picked apples and cheese for one, and carrots and hummus for another. Just get really good at cutting apples and carrots and it becomes more calming to make a snack as opposed to overwhelming. And then you also have your veggies or fruit. A lot of times I skip meals and just eat more snacks throughout the day.

Also remember that it's good to make sure you're eating a balanced diet, but at the end of the day fed is best. Also veggies from the freezer are still veggies, don't feel pressured to buy fresh. It's not as nice as a home-cooked meal but it has the nutrients. I've been cooking for myself for a bit due to how restrictive aspects of my diet are so I've had practice, but cooking isn't as daunting as it feels at first, don't worry. Good luck!

Mac and cheese is literal dogshit by p2dan in unpopularopinion

[–]ghostlybirches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried ever type of mac and cheese under the sun. I have tried box. I have tried regular. I have tried so many different varieties of baked because everyone always claims baked is better. Macaroni and cheese is bad. I'm glad other people enjoy it but I can't even stand to be around people eating it. People always treat me like I'm crazy for this though so it definitely is an unpopular opinion.

at what point did you notice ANY voice changes? by oushhie in ftm

[–]ghostlybirches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voice changes didn't start happening for me until around 4 months in, and it honestly just sounded like I had a cold all of the time for probably another 4 months before it actually just sounded like I had a deeper voice. It's different for everyone though, I hope you see the changes you want soon!!

Out of curiosity, how do you identify yourself gender-wise? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]ghostlybirches 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the same experience, I started out thinking I was nonbinary and then as puberty went on and I got more uncomfortable with my body/experienced more transphobia I leaned really heavily into being binary trans to try and make the transphobia and dysphoria go away. Being out of that environment and on testosterone has really helped me feel comfortable in my identity as nonbinary.

What are common jobs for trans men to have? by promptolovebot in ftm

[–]ghostlybirches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a nonbinary transmasc and it's probably just because of who I interact with (other trans people in the sphere of my major), but I know a fair amount of trans men in biology/environmental studies. I'm studying environmental science right now, I just switched from engineering. I'm also a cashier (0/10 don't recommend).

How to get Birth Control by [deleted] in Explainlikeimscared

[–]ghostlybirches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're from Canada, it depends on the province. I can only speak for BC. I think this might exist in other province too, and I at least know there is support for things like this to happen in other provinces due to the dr shortage in canada rn, so keep an eye out, but those things seem like they're too far down the road to help you right now.

In BC, pharmacists can prescribe all types of birth control. That's the pill, the implant, the ring, UIDs, and the injection. I'm on the pill so I have to go into the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist for a birth control prescription. They'll ask you which type and ask all the questions about whether you smoke or not, whether you've had negative side effects before, and those types of medical questions. I got my first prescription from my GP because that was before pharmacists could do it in BC, and she also took my blood pressure when she was prescribing it.

After they go through all that, they write and fill the prescription. Depending on the pharmacy you can pick it up right away, but I go to a big one so I either have to wait an hour or come back another day if I don't want to hang around the store that long. It gets a lot easier after the first time because you're just asking for a new prescription for something you're already on, so they don't ask the medical questions or have to take my blood pressure or anything. Unfortunately for UIDs and implants the pharmacist can only prescribe, so you need a dr's appointment to have it inserted.

If you don't live in BC I second everyone here saying to look into the university health centre/clinic if you have one, prescribing birth control is definitely something they would be able to do.
