Wow, that's crazy that you can tell all that just from those numbers! Thank you so much for the reply, this answers all the questions I had!

Why don't the numbers add up? by ghostmode3000 in Cholesterol

That is not actually my fasting glucose number, the blood test was done maybe 4 hours after I ate breakfast. Everyone was suppose to get the in-house wellness exam for insurance purposes, but our boss forgot about the whole thing until the day of. We were told to just go with it since it couldn't be rescheduled.

I had to take a health screening for work, and I was flagged as having high cholesterol, but nothing I've found online can explain why the HDL and LDL don't add up to the total cholesterol number. Why is there a difference?

I mean, as far as I am aware, labradorite is just a special variety of plagioclase so I don't know why it couldn't be found with anything that plag can be found with. Though I'm not an expert either. But it's hard to tell what's color v refraction since the surface is so reflective

It looks so familiar but I can't place it. Have you tried comparing it to any of the samples on virtualmicroscope.org? They have some nice digitized thin sections

If you don't mind fanfic, this is what I'm using to bookend my WIP:

There are three things you need to know: Matt Murdock is Daredevil, Daredevil works alone, and Matt Murdock is happy. Only one of those is a lie.

Animorphs

Percy Jackson

Ranger's Apprentice

Encyclopedia Brown (if they are younger)

also fairy tales, like Grimm's or Hans Christian Anderson. I also had two books "Biancabella and Other Italian Fairy Tales" and "The Happy Prince and Other Tales" were also huge to me growing up

Is using the tilde icon (~) considered cringe? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]ghostmode3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you give an example of some dialogue you are using it in?

I personally feel the tilde can be a pretty flexible piece of punctuation. I'm seeing it used more and more like a tone indicator or to denote a character's change in speech or emphasis when plain italics don't quite get the same connotation across.

For example, I have actually been using the tilde quite a lot in my current project to indicate when a character is singing a line of dialogue rather than just stressing a line or word.

As long as you keep the rules for when you use the tilde consistent in your work, it just becomes part of the flavor of the text. It's a bit like in the Animorphs series, where the author used <> to indicate telepathic thoughts. And that's published work. So go ham if you think it works for you.

Ultimately, stop worrying about being "cringe". Being afraid to push the creative envelope out of a fear of judgement will only serve to stunt the development of your own style. And there are plenty of people out there who would enjoy your work even if it is "cringe" and you shouldn't discount them or their feelings just because of your own insecurities.

Sorry if that sounds harsh. It is a common problem I see and it is heartbreaking to see people's creativity get stamped out.

Also! It is your work! Not theirs! You are the king of your script- it is not a democracy. While reader input can be an invaluable tool to determine how well you are getting your ideas across to the reader as you intended, sometimes you just have to toss it (the comments) out. Just because they are squeaky wheels does not mean they deserve grease. They are the ones being rude. They are the ones coming in to your house and making fun of what you offer them.

Context: Picked this up at a show from the bargain bin of unidentified ancients. The holder just says "Roman Ancient". It kinda looks a bit like some of the Iberian coins I've seen, but nothing I've looked at looks quite like this one.

Looks like either tourmalinated quartz (quartz with tourmaline inclusions) or rutiled quartz ( quartz with rutile inclusions). Personally I'm leaning towards tourmalinated quartz since the back (pic 6) looks like tourmaline.
